Roth blinked as the red almost blinded him. He winced his eyes and glared forwards. His head ached terribly. In front of him a massive screen contained an eyeball. Several smaller screens around it contained the same image. Roth blinked some more as he tried to focus. It was hard.

"Hello Roth." A voice boomed out from above.

Roth scanned the room. Very small and cramped. He had no idea where this could be but the room was tiny. He fumbled around looking for a latch or a way out desperately.

"Many others have tried." The voice boomed out. "There's not much point. Just hear me out and we can all go about our business. I won't harm you in here."

Roth stopped and sighed. "What do you want from me Mr. Willis?" He asked miserably.

"I wanted to see how you were getting on Roth, and then I have a small task I want you to complete. You don't have to. It's entirely at your discretion. But you may find you want to. Difficult to say for now."

Roth sighed. It was mind games was it?

"You've not found your demon yet have you Roth? That's a little annoying. Wouldn't want that great force unleashed on the world. You found a demonic snake, or rather, it found you. But we both know that isn't what you're looking for. I hope you trust them all."

"Well Roth the predicament I have for you today is thus. We're going to perform a little trust exercise. Your little rag-tag group is becoming quite something with all your prying into rooms and finding ancient documents. But what is a group if there is no trust?"

"I am going to place two things into your backpack. These things are a gun and a bulletproof vest. The bulletproof vest will protect against anything of serious physical attack danger. You can have that on the house. The gun...that'll only work on one person. It's special. Once used it will dissolve. That person is your discovered companion, Robert."

Roth grimaced slightly.

"Robert will be brought in here and given a gun just the same. However I will be telling him that if he kills you, he obtains a useful artefact. He doesn't know you have a bulletproof vest so may think he can get away with it or even convince the group he can. It's quite a nasty predicament don't you agree?"

"The question on your mind Roth, is do you trust Robert enough to not try and kill you in cold blood for some kind of temporary reward? You'll find out over the coming hours I'm sure. And if you don't, the weapon is there right by your side. You know what to do with it."

"I know, thou shalt not kill but you're hardly a priest anymore Roth. Far from it. And you have to look out for your interests."

"Once you confirm you understand I'll send you on your way and bring Robert in for a little chat. Just so we're all clear. Be careful who you trust Roth, evil lurks around every corner."

Roth glanced up at the eye and tried to stare it down but failed with a sigh.

So the gun you'll give me only works with Robert? Even if I point it at something else, even in another room either it doesn't work or Robert always dies?

And I also have a vest to protect me from an attack he's going to make to me over a promise you made? There's something fishy about this. Of course it could be you telling him about the gun and the promise... But I doubt he'd be convinced that easily. There's something else in your sleeve you're going to grant him. Or there's a backhanded reason you want me to slip up in that vest.

I'll one-up that offer. I return your vest, and you give me something I want, only if we both survive the attack. If he kills me, well you'll have to give him his reward... And I'm done with. Do we have a deal?

The eye stared down at Roth intently.

"Interesting idea." The voice boomed out.

"But I'll be giving you the vest anyway. It's far too dangerous out there without it."

"Now if you'll excuse me, I have other things I need to be doing."

"You're a tough one Roth. Watch yourself out there."
