1 - Shite - Every single song is terrible and you struggled or indeed failed to finish the album.
2 - Very Bad - It was a chore to listen to and you didn't enjoy any of the songs.
3 - Poor - You didn't enjoy the album but it wasn't a struggle to listen to.
4 - Below Par - By and large you are not a fan, but you didn't hate it.
5 - Meh - You neither hated or loved it. Perhaps one or two songs had potential, but overall this was like background music.

Listened to this one about 7-8 times already. Which probably means I like it. Some songs tend to get stuck in my head, but I can't tell which ones they are. Maybe the songs are a bit too similar or don't stand out enough?
That's probably my biggest issue. Each time I put it on, I intend to listen to all the songs closely, but after the first song I simply lose my attention until At The Door or Not the Same Anymore (my two favorites probably).
Kinda really want to judge each song though, so I will give it another attempt later. Don't mind it at all.

Need more opinions / votes :P
Ok listened another time yesterday and again lost focus after the first song :/
Gonna listen again now and rate each song.
1. The Adults Are Talking 8/10 - I really really like this song. It doesn't go anywhere, but I don't mind. Just a really fun song.
2. Selfless 5/10 - don't hate it, but I lost attention and it didn't do anything for me.
3. Brooklyn Bridge to Chorus 6/10 - decent intro, boring chorus, boring song.
4. Bad Decisions 5/10 - beginning is OK, but then it's kinda meh... sounds almost like a No Doubt song and I hate No Doubt.
5. Eternal Summer 5/10 - zzzzz boring
6. At the Door 9/10 - yup I really love this song, probably one of their best. Julian's vocals are so good here.
7. Why Are Sundays So Depressing 4/10 - annoying song
8. Not the Same Anymore 9/10 - great song, I can't decide if this or At the Door is my favorite. This is the one that gets stuck in my head constantly. Powerful vocals, kind of old school The Strokes.
9. Ode to the Mets 8/10 - weird song but it is quite OK
Overall not a great album I guess. Too many boring / annoying songs. Some very good songs too. I guess my average grade is a 7 so will give it a 7.

Haven't gotten to this yet. I find my motivation to listen to these full albums is not always there.

Just finished up listening to this. Here are my initial thoughts for some of the songs:
-The first couple of songs, I recall not liking the vocals much at all. Almost enough that I thought about turning it off and giving up.
-The only song that really caught my attention was 'At The Door'. I do agree with Lamps that it's the best song on the album.
-The whole album felt very samey to me.
While I do enjoy some of The Strokes stuff, I'm not going to be adding any of this stuff to my collection any time soon. I could definitely see putting this on in the background for game night or something like that, where you want music, but you don't want it to distract. With that, I guess the score I'll be giving it is a 5.

I like that are only 9 songs.
The first one's not terrible. I don't mind it at all. Though he seems to be lazily singing it. :P
Brooklyn Bridge to Chorus, that opening music sounds familiar. Lot less boring than the previous song (Selfless).
I like the second part of the chorus (if that's even what it is lol) of Bad Decisions, the part after "I'm making bad decisions, making bad decisions". The rest of it I'm not a fan of.
Big fat no to Eternal Summer.
After the other reviews, I was looking forward to At The Door. The vocals are good but I'm hoping it picks up/changes tempo a little bit, maybe a little drum kicks in. It doesn't. But it's still not a bad song.
I might say that Why Are Sundays So Depressing is the best song on the album?
Actually Not The Same Anymore might be, from start to finish. This one to me, really stood out. It really is "not the same" as the rest.
Ode to the Mets is a pretty good album closer. I'm about ready for the album to end now. Actually it's perfect song to close out the album.
I'm not a huge fan of The Strokes, but I might listen to a couple of these songs again in the future: Not The Same Anymore, Why Are Sundays So Depressing, The Adults Are Talking.
For the album as a whole, I'd land somewhere between 6 and 7. I'll probably go with 7.
I did it! | |
