new series on Prime, p easy to breeze through with just 8 episodes 20 minutes each
Binged the whole thing today and it was so good. It was written by two of the main writers of BoJack which definitely shows, the existentialism (especially), humor, and great characters are definitely all still there. Just add a lil dash of sci-fi on top of all that

honestly, I was kinda hoping it would be all in her head, but I can't completely explain WHY. The show definitely seems to present either side of it pretty well. That "maybe it's just a bathtub" scene where the mother's line from earlier gets put into context was so brilliant and really sums up that internal conflict so well. Also the ending with the two sisters where Becca tries to rationalize that there doesn't NEED to be more than the world they have made me want to have Alma LET GO and actually try to live normally. The ending does seem to be somewhat ambiguous, I mean technically she COULD'VE just been marveling at the sunrise, but I think it's p clear what they want the audience to think happened (plus I mean...she definitely did know things about people that are pretty inexplicable if it was all in her head)
also Rosa Salazar was so, so good in this. Especially considering it's a character which VERY easily could've been insufferable, but I was with her every step of the way despite all her bad decisions. Really all the main characters were really easy to sympathize with despite all their flaws. By the end JACOB of all people came out looking the worst |

Agreed about Rosa Salazar. On paper the character is actually prettyyyy annoying but she brings it to life in a realistic/semi endearing way
Kinda wish it was trippier tbh, I expected more topsy turvy timey wimey paradox stuff. I just read they're doing a s2 (which surprises me) so I hope they get more into that. Roommate and I were both pissed that it ended like that (not in a bad way necessarily) so I was glad to see a s2 is in works |

I'd been checking for S2 news periodically after I finished S1 and never heard a word about it besides the fact that it was greenlit. Then it just dropped outta nowhere today
Prob gonna wait til I can binge it all at once but I'm excited. Really liked S1 | |

S2 = good but forgettable compared to S1

having the entire season be an answer to the question poised by the first season's ending was an interesting choice. I did like the theme of acceptance and how that all tied together in the end, it stuck the ending p well and the last two eps were especially strong...I just dunno if we needed THAT much preamble to get there? The Alejandro subplot seemed to drag needlessly, not really sure why they devoted so much of the season to that
Could've used more Sam! |
