Sequel to THE SHINING. Based on King’s own sequel to The Shining. It’s apparently a mix of being a sequel to the movie and to the book at the same time
From the guy who did Hush and Netflix’s Hill House, he’s pretty dope

NOT HALF BAD! I liked it. Spoilers below so don't read!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A pretty impossible task for Flanagan but I thought he delivered. Him, Ewan, and Ferguson all held it down. Good supporting performances from my boy Cliff Curtis and my other boy HANZEEEEEE DENT! Love him
Almost easy to forget it was even related to The Shining during the first like 2/3rds which isn't necessarily a bad thing. And then they mayyyybe overcorrected that a bit during the end with maybe too much mirroring to the OG but it still mostly worked for me, didn't get tooo annoying. It was cool enough to revisit some of the old classic moments in the hotel, I just wish they created more of their own while they were in there. All the apparitions taking out Ferguson was a great moment though
The recasting of Danny/Wendy/Jack didn't bother me as much as it seems to be bothering others. I thought Danny/Wendy worked really well. Jack was a liiil tougher because of how iconic he is + all I was seeing was Henry Thomas which didn't help. One of several recurring Flanagan collaborators that showed up in this. I did really enjoy the bar scene, but I would've looooved it if they obscured Jack the whole convo and got a sound-alike or even Jack to do it, that'd have been dope
By the end it ended up being more effecting than I thought it'd be. I loved the shot of Wendy holding young Danny's face in the boiler room. Wasn't scary at all (tho the bathtub lady will always make my skin crawl) but I don't think it was really trying to be much of the time. Very much its own thing which it needed to be. 7/10 | |

I liked it. It was more about the supernatural than the original, but mainly because Jack stole the show in that one.
It wasn't a remake or a polishing. It was a good stand alone storyline with relatable characters and a completely different direction.
I saw the end as more of a hat tip to greatness than an overdone tie in.
The only thing I disliked was the piss poor Jack look alike who played the bartender. Loved the strength of the little girl and the crazy of the demon lady. |
