I made three of these years ago and kept them separate from the real POTD, and will continue to do so as this is super niche (:
I have selected 16 games from the year 2013 based off listings of popular games released during that time. Vote for all the games that you have played, whether you owned it or not. Did you like it? Hate it? Never quite finish it? Recommend it? Any that are still on your backburner that you want to try? Give us some short memories!
Honorable Mentions:
Pokemon X & Y
Lego Marvel Super Heroes
DmC: Devil May Cry
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons
God of War: Ascension
Telltale's The Walking Dead: Season 2
The Stanley Parable

What a STACKED year. Damn.
Played:
Grand Theft Auto V - Great, great, great. Overhyped? Maybe a bit, but for good reason. The GTA series has always been a favorite of mine since I was a young lad. And it's always been one of the most groundbreaking games out there. The three protagonist system was risky, but worked out so well with three amazing characters that I loved playing as equally. Online can be bad at times due to the toxicity of the community, but is still so very fun when we fuck around on it.
Saints Row IV - ...ugh. Saints Row 2 is one of my favorite games of all time and one that I poured more hours into than any other game that isn't made by Bethesda. I remember being super excited for III but being a bit disappointed with what it turned out to be. Still, despite that, it was fun and I enjoyed it a lot. IV, however... damn. What the fuck? They make it a super hero game where you're basically invincible and fighting aliens. Saints Row has always been known for being very silly and wacky but at one time being a legitimate competitor against GTA to this was just really sad.
The Last of Us - One of my first buys when I got my PS4 and I'm really ashamed to say I have yet to finish it! I can't really remember how far I am, but I'm still rather early. And absolutely terrible at it. I ended up putting it on the backburner when I was stuck on something and just never returned. I need to play this again. I remember being blown away by the story and liking the characters a whole lot. Unfortunately I already know the ending and have for years, but I still really want to play through it.
Payday 2 - Even though I'm god awful, it's still very fun to fuck around in this once in awhile. Playing and communicating with friends it what makes it so fun to successfully finish your heist. KC, please leave.
The Wolf Among Us - I loved it. I went in thinking I wouldn't really care for the story at all, but ended up growing very attached to Bigsby. I would say it ranks below The Walking Dead and Borderlands, but it was still a very great entry in the Telltale series and it makes me so sad we'll never get a sequel.
Honorable
Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons - I think I got this on 360 for free. The control system was pretty unique, being able to control two characters with the two joysticks. I don't think I got very far before I got, I believe, GTA V and it ended up going on the backburner forever. I should pick it up sometime, I heard it's got a really emotional story.
Walking Dead: Season 2 - I don't think anything can compare to Season 1 OBVS but this was still an amazing season. An emotional rollercoaster that left me very confused and lost at the end over my bad decision making :( Kenny is the man.
Didn't play but...
BioShock Infinite - I own this on 360 (Free w/ Gold) AND on Steam (BioShock collection). I have yet to ever play it. I was hoping to play all the BioShock games before I played Infinite. I made it decently far into the first game but my save got corrupted and I never played it again. I need to get back into this series as I've been extremely interested in Infinite for the longest time.
Outlast - I watched a LP of it on Twitch. Definitely not my type of game but looked FUN! Shadow should play this one day.
On my list to play...
Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag - One day! I binged Assassin's Creed 1-3 (including the two games with Ezio before II and III). I loved every single one of them EXCEPT III, which was very disappointing as I was extremely hyped for it. Black Flag totally turned me off as it looked like it was centered around the ship scenes, which I hated in III so I skipped it. But I would like to pick this series back up one day so I do plan on eventually getting it seeing how it's pretty cheap now anyway. |

This is where I realize that I have a bad habit of not finishing video games if I take too long on them.

RANKED
Bioshock Infinite: My favorite game of all time? PROB! This or the first. Amazing game
Battlefield 4: Easily my favorite multiplayer shooter series. I think I liked BF3 better, I confuse them. But this was just as fun really. In our college suite we set up four flatscreens lined up, had four 360’s, and each had a copy of this game and would squad up. Easily one of the funnest gaming experiences I’ve had
Payday 2: Always really fun when we play, I don’t get tired of it tbh. Going loud is fun, going quiet is my favorite and always super tense
GTAV: Not AS high on it as the average person but it’s fun to dick around in and I love just driving around sometimes. Campaign was excellent, Trevor is such a standout. Multiplayer got old faster than I thought it would I guess? Idk
Tomb Raider: Great reboot. Really solid solo experience
Outlast: Fun! Kinda frontloaded with scares though. I remember a lot about the start and almost nothing outside the first half hour

Only played The Last of Us and Bioshock from that list. I feel like this is bad since I play a ton of video games, but none of those games really interested me. Also, how did you leave off NCAA '14? It was one of the best selling games, especially since it was the final release of the franchise. |

I tend to leave sports games off these lists unless they're something completely different from the standard yearly releases |

ah ok. Makes sense. I am now going to google 2013 video games and see which ones I actually played back then. |

Games I bought/played from 2013 (not in poll)
1. Metro Last Light - enjoyed and bought the combo pack on xbox one that combines both games. 3rd one comes out early next year and I'm looking forward to it.
2. Army of 2 Devils Cartel - last game I bought on the PS3 and I actually didn't open it up until a couple months ago. It's utter and complete garbage. One of the worst games I have ever played, and that was only the first mission. My buddy and I loved the first 2 and were so disappointed in this shit.
3. NCAA '14 - one of the best installments in this series and also the last one. I still fire up the PS3 to play this every so often.
4. Dynasty Warriors 8 - love this series. it offers loads of mindless button mashing and killing weak ass enemies for hours. Unfortunately this one wasn't that great and didn't really play it much.
XBox 1 and PS4 came out late in the year and I picked up Killzone for PS4 and I don't remember what I got with Xbox. I think I got NBA2K and something else but can't remember.

Not sure if it's the best game of all time but that Bioshock series is easily one of the top 3 series of all time. Just an incredible story and game play. I am hoping Last Of Us 2 can really keep that story going and be up there. |

Great year for gaming, but I was playing GTA 5 for years, and have recently started up again when I visit my cousin.
