We did the Alligator River Story awhile back. NOW PRESENTING..........The Bread Thief Story



Once upon a time there was a man named Joseph who was too poor to provide for himself and his wife, Amelia. In a moment of weakness, Amelia stole a loaf of bread from a shopkeeper, Robin. Joseph was aware that she stole it.

The crime was witnessed by a drug addict named Charles. Robin, noticing that the bread was missing, suspected Joseph of the crime. Knowing that Charles was nearby at the time, Robin offered Charles his drug of choice as payment if he would confirm that Joseph did indeed steal the bread. Charles lied and confirmed that Joseph stole the bread. Robin provided him with his drug in return.

Joseph was sentenced to have his hand cleaved off for his supposed crime. Amelia's father, Gavin, knew that Amelia was guilty but urged her to keep quiet so that Joseph would have his hand cleaved off instead. Amelia obliged.

Joseph, enraged with Amelia for staying quiet, provided evidence to Robin that it was actually Amelia who stole from him. Robin then cleaved off Amelia's hand instead.

Ameila - for going along with her father's plan
Gavin - for trying to let an innocent man get his hand cleaved off
Robin - for enabling a druggie
Charles - for lying and being a druggie
Joseph - for letting his wife steal instead of doing it himself

Robin - assumed the wrong person stole her bread, then bribed a drug addict with drugs to get the wrong man sentenced without any proof. She seems like a terrible person to begin with.
Amelia - she stole the bread, but she was desperate, then stayed quiet at her father's suggestion and let her husband get his hand cut, knowing he wasn't guilty. She was probably scared.
Gavin - I get it. He didn't want his daughter to lose her hand, but he told her to keep quiet and not even tell her husband.
Charles - saw the actual crime, but took the drugs he was offered to say that he saw someone else do the crime. The guy has an addiction, if he didn't want the drugs so badly, he'd have probably told the truth. I could flop him and Gavin.
Joseph - I don't think he did anything wrong. He was betrayed by his wife and father-in-law, and Charles the drug addict, and it seemed like Robin had it out for him to begin with. All he did was offer proof of the actual culprit of the crime, even though it was his own wife.

Everyone had reasons to do what they did, except really Robin, which makes her the worst of the bunch, imo.

you mean because he abided by the law? :P I took it as he didn't know she had stolen the bread. Since he seemed so angry that she had kept quiet.

Robin is just a hard-working woman who doesn't want people stealing her bread! Her only crime is taking advantage of a drug addict but she probably lives in trying times!

Maybe he didn't know, I'm not sure. I can look the other way if he didn't know. He's still least of the worst, meaning best? lol

She didn't have proof that Joseph stole the bread, but still got him sent down, by bribing a drug addict with drugs. And where'd she get them drugs anyhow, huh? :P

She went with her heart! How many people are in jail because of faulty witnesses/people who "just know" someone else was guilty? Happens all the time - and they probably didn't have DNA in this story.
