This is a pretty common radio station game and one of the local Boston ones started doing it. Everyone in my family listens on their commute and it drives us crazy

It's simple. They play a brief sound clip and the Xth caller has to correctly guess what made the sound. The more wrong answers, the more money they add. Sometimes it lasts for weeks before anyone gets it. The answers below the audio clip have already been guessed and are wrong

Consuming is the best way to describe it. I play it dozens of times and it kills me that I can't just find out the answer right away

Maybe dropping a piece into the board in Connect 4?

My new guess is... some kind of toy gun or cheap plastic bb gun or something similar.

Like the sound of loading the clip in and then pulling back the slide to load one in the chamber.

The way they do their site is dumb. They just edit that one page, so now my link in the OP doesn't have the original sound effect so we just look like crazy people in this thread

My guess was already guessed. Shuffling cards. I hate this game so much. Loading a shaving razor would have never come to my mind, even if given until the sun burns out to figure out the answer.
