Fat activists?
They have got nothing on these people.
Out there on the big bad internets are thriving communities of people who think that the laws against drink driving are a persecution of our basic rights!
First things first...

Many moons ago, during the summer between 7th and 8th grades, I was involved in a violent accident. I was run-over.
My skull was cracked wide-open, both legs were broken, multiple ribs broken, my shoulder was scraped down to the bone (and then some), among many other injuries suffered. I was unconscious for 3 days. Endured multiple surgeries. It took almost 3 weeks before I could even start to comprehend what happened. It was 6 months later before I healed enough to learn to walk again. I missed the first half of 8th grade. 30 years later, I'm still scarred from head to toe. It is without exaggeration that I say I'm lucky to be alive.
The driver who hit me was stone sober. No alcohol, no drugs, nothing. Clean as a whistle. |
I think you can see where this is going...
|
Now, let me ask you ... What difference did the guy's sobriety make? Why on Earth would I even care about the content of the perpetrator's blood? |
Yeah! Why would you care if he had copious amounts of a substance known for lowering concentration and reaction time in his blood whilst fucking driving?
|
Reckless driving is no more acceptable from a sober driver than it is from a drunk driver. Manslaughter is manslaughter. Damage is damage. Crime is crime. Since sobriety doesn't make a crime any more palatable than drunkenness makes it worse, what's the point of drunk driving laws? |
You know...it just depresses me to read this. I have no more words for this idiot already. If you want to be infuriated, read the rest of the article. It is the first link I posted.
Moving on to the website actively devoted to defending drunk driving...
http://getmadd.com/
This site takes this concept of drunk driver persecution to extraordinary levels...

Attempts by government and special interest groups to influence our thinking is not a new phenomenon. In the 50's, we were convinced that there was a Communist under every bed just waiting to enslave us and our families. The Commie hysteria went on to justified the Vietnam war in the 60's.
Think about words or phrases that make your blood boil. "Communist" has lost its magic, but how about "drunk driver"! Twenty-five years and hundreds of millions of dollars spent by our government, MADD and other anti-alcohol groups has rendered us unable to view every drunk driver as anyone other than a vile, child killer. |
So government propaganda to start wars in foreign countries in the cold war is just the same as the government trying to make the roads safer? Right.
|
Just a thought: Do you think the people who have lost loved ones to drunk drivers realize that they are merely pawns in promoting a Prohibitionist agenda? |
:| :| :| :| :| :| :| :| :|
I cannot quote any more of this ridiculous shit. It makes my blood boil.
I will leave it to all of you instead.
All I will say is that working behind a bar, I see drunk driving a lot. And I have never being able to understand why people still do it despite how dangerous it is. Then I see websites like those and everything becomes much clearer.
I cannot fathom why people would dedicate their time to fighting laws which make absolute sense, and don't hurt them in any way. Are you telling me that there are drink driving clubs out there? Is it a strange hobby I have never heard about?
I don't get it.

If I can't drink and drive because it lowers my reaction time and decisions, why can dumb people with low reaction times drive at all? | |

I was just reading an article on Cracked the other day that talked about this phenomenon. Strange world we live in, indeed.
However, the first man makes a somewhat legitimate point. When you get hit by a reckless driver, you don't really care if he's drunk or not. However, that does not mean that drunkenness does not breed recklessness, 'cause it totally does. | Let's do this bitch. |
