Well summer is upon us folks. And for me at least it looks like a lot of my favorite shows that were airing are going off the air. With that in mind I decided I'd make a thread basically getting everyone's opinions on what I should possibly watch next. I like and respect a lot of opinions on here especially Curtis as from what I've read in other threads we seem to agree on a lot (Hannibal, Survivor, GoT, etc.) so hopefully he will chime in. There may be a thread similar to this one but this will help me keep track of what I've watched, what I need to watch, and what I need to possibly avoid. Now everyone has different tastes and opinions but we can usually as a collective group form an opinion of actual good shows vs bad shows.

I don't consider myself a TV snob but I believe I may be in the sense that I usually only watch highly rated critically acclaimed shows. But I am for anything anyone may recommend.

I prefer shows with a lot of twists or an intriguing plotline not seen in many TV shows (Breaking Bad for example)
I don't like procedural/"crime or suspect" of the week shows like Criminal Minds, Law and Order, etc.
I also don't religiously watch any comedy shows but I do like to break from drama and watch them occasionally so those would be welcome as well.

Shows I've Finished or caught up on

Breaking Bad- Excellent show probably my #1 of all time especially during the final 8 episode run. I never remember being more excited week to week. Premise is what originally intrigued me

Game of Thrones- Not too shabby of a show like the character interactions and twist. Though I do feel it has slowed down a bit some during season 4. But I believe they are setting up for good things in the final 3 episodes and for season 5.

Hannibal- Probably in my top 3 shows at the moment. Have to make sure it finishes strong before placing it. Favorite new show on TV right now though. I loved the movies so that's what sparked my interest to watch it originally.

Oz- My first full fledged TV show that I couldn't wait for each season to come out every year back before internet and when it'd take forever for new DVDs to come out. Great characters and great drama made this one a must watch for me

The Wire- It was really slow and I didn't know if I'd follow through but with memorable characters like Stringer, Omar, and Brother Mouzoune I was hooked. (Considering rewatch)

Lost- Well duh of course! The twists and interconnecting story lines plus one of my favorite all time tv characters (John Locke) made this show an unforgettable one. (Considering rewatch)

Prison Break- This show had an amazing first season. Though some suspension of disbelief was needed it was a good ride. It got progressively worse each season in my opinion but I saw it through.

Revolution- Mediocre at best I only stuck with it to see it through and I was really bored sometimes. Don't recommend.

The Walking Dead- I prefer the comics. This show is an above average one that seems on the right path after a much improved season 4.

True Detective- Wow. What a ride. For a show that has a somewhat overdone premise they freshened it up and Rust Cohle is one of my favorite tv characters now alongside T-Bag, Walter White, and John Locke.

Dexter- The first 4 seasons (not as much season 3 but it was good) were amazing. 5 and 6 were pretty bleh besides the reveal at the end of 6. Then 7 was amazing again. And then they shit the bed with 8 of course. :(

Survivor- Rewatching past seasons every so often but I've seen a majority of them

The Challenge- Guilty pleasure reality show.

It's Always Sunny- Probably my favorite comedy show.

Shows I plan on watching

House of Cards- My friend calls it his second favorite show after Breaking Bad. I need to take the leap.

Mad Men- I've heard good things. I just don't understand the concept after (Man in the 50s tries to come up in a company...idk?) If anyone can give me an as spoiler free synopsis of how this show that seems to have a basic premise has gone on for 7 seasons please let me know below.

Arrow- I've watched the first 5 episodes. Seems like it'll break from it's procedural so far outing and it has a lot of potential. Anyone who has watched it can vouch for it getting better possibly? I've heard it for sure does in the second season supposedly.

Six Feet Under- An oldie but I heard a goodie. Plus it has Michael C. Hall who I loved as Dexter.

Masters of Sex- Just heard good things and it sounds interesting. Anyone?

Fargo- I loved the movie. I heard the show is a lot like an extended and different take on it. Probably high on my watch list.

Twin Peaks- Watched the first two episodes. It seems too quirky and out there. Maybe it was good/revolutionary for it's time. I might try and give it another shot.

The Americans- A different premise than what most shows seem to offer. Seems like something I could get into.

American Horror Story- I saw season 1 and some of season 2. And what I saw was enjoyable. Something I might eventually get to.

The Following- Don't know much about it. But it is on Netflix and has above average reviews. Not stellar ones though.

Louie- From what I've watched it is funny as hell. Louis C.K is the man

Parks and Rec- Star studded amazing cast. Need to commit to watching more

Community- I heard it is really good if you get into it and are a loyal fan. Lots of meta and callbacks. Seems intriguing.

Portlandia- I love sketch comedy. That sums it up. Saw a couple episodes.

Bates Motel- Seems like a more subdued maybe not as good Hannibal. Seems like an interesting backstory to tell though.

Sons of Anarchy- Not really into bikers or gangs. I'd have to hear high praise for it to make it high on my list.

Justified- Everyone except me in my family watches this and it gets good reviews.

Heroes- I've heard the first season is one of the best things or was one of the best things on tv then it basically went downhill. Hmmm.

Orange is the new black- Friend said it was decent but had a stellar ending that set up for a potentially good season 2.

--------------------------------------------------------

This is in no way a complete or comprehensive list. This is what I could think of off the top of my head and by looking at Netflix. The list is in no special order just a list of shows I'd be interested in watching.

Feel free to rate which ones are worth watching and which ones aren't and maybe what order you'd watch a few of them in.

Leave any feedback, make a list of your own, comment as much as you'd like. I know a lot of you probably don't care about my opinions but I figured this was a good a place as any to keep a list I can go back and reference and get a few opinions for myself.

Thank you for your time.

I'd recommend Community and Fargo the most for you. If you liked the Fargo movie you'll love the show even more

And Mad Men is hard to explain really. I guess to boil it down to one sentence it's about a man in an ad agency trying to find happiness in his life. But really it's about so many things. It's mostly interested in just painting a picture of the era and making really fleshed out characters. It's not a show that has a lot of shocking twists and turns or anything, so some may not find it the most exciting. But if you like character-driven stories with lots of good emotional moments it's very good. And it can be really funny most of the time too

After that list I don't feel worthy to even post here :x but I'm currently watching Dexter. I'm almost through the first season. I eventually need to go back and finish watching the rest of Breaking Bad but it kind of got put on hold, not even sure why really.

I'm up to date with TWD, GoT and Orange is the new black. I want to watch Sons of Anarchy and Hannibal but no idea when that will happen.
A lesson without pain is meaningless. That's because no one can gain without sacrificing something. But by enduring that pain and overcoming it, he shall obtain a powerful, unmatched heart. A fullmetal heart.

Me neither, but I love it. Kind of ridiculous at times but good writing, fun characters and extremely satisfying/explosive finales. Plus, I need more than just me and JJ talking about it when the last season comes around in the Fall (:
