So at the moment I think it is fair to say that American TV is experiencing a bit of a golden age. So many instant classics have surfaced over the past few years.

Breaking Bad, Mad Men, GoT, Lost, The Wire etc

There is plenty on TV worth discussing at the moment, and I think it is overlooked by this community.

Sure, we make the odd thread about a show that will get posted in every once in a while, but you can't really have in depth discussion. You can't make threads devoted to a particular theory/character/episode.

I think this is why EN didn't succeed. It was supposed to be a forum dedicated to the discussion of TV and film. Instead of focusing on one TV show we were going to broaden our horizons to anything we enjoyed. But there was no room on EN for the same level of discussion that Lost generated.

I know that Lost left a lot open for discussion as it was, but I don't think we had the opportunity for that on EN.

The shows I watch now leave me wanting to discuss them come the end of the episode, particularly breaking bad and mad men.

But I have to make do with online reviews and their comments sections (which I only read).

I got thinking about this today and I had an idea!

Why not make specific sub forums for some popular shows here to generate more discussion. I figure people will post more if they have space dedicated to specific shows.

Tell me what you think! If you all think it is a terrible idea, I won't lose sleep over it. Also, if it has been done before and I missed it, silly me!

Well like you said there aren't really any shows on right now that are as ripe for discussion as Lost was (and there probably won't be for a long time). But yeah I think this is a pretty good idea. I think there's enough people who watch Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones at least that a subforum would work for those

If there are shows as big as they are and people are really into them, it works to have sections. Not a bad idea.

Hm. While we are experiencing something of a golden age, I think, for a lot of currently running shows, there aren't that many fans. Or at least, not that many people willing to discuss things. In the fall there will be new seasons of Breaking Bad, Boardwalk Empire, and Fringe, and while I'd like to discuss them on here, it's not likely that the latter two will get much discussion. (My BE season 2 thread last year speaks to this lol, and the only person I knew who watched it with me was Roos)

I like this idea. I agree that there are some really great shows on television right now. I particularly enjoy Game of Thrones at the moment, but there's plenty out there.

The way I see it, television, good television, is modern literature. I mean, that's part of what made Lost so worthy of discussion.
Let's do this bitch.

I love the idea but echo some of what has already been said. What show is going to generate the discussion that LOST gave us on FI? After each episode of Game of Thrones ends my first instinct wouldn't be to go talk about every seen here. Same with Person of Interest. Great show, love Michael Emerson. But aside from that the level of discussion could never be what it was for LOST. Perhaps LOST is an unfair show to put other shows up against though.

I'm all for the idea. A TV sub-forum with Threads devoted to the TV shows. People that want to talk about those shows will flock to those threads. If one thread gets a boatload of discussion it could get its own sub-forum or something.

yeah LOST we had the theories and all that, genereally with current shows I find it difficult to really go into detail.
