Simple question because I'm curious!

When playing mafia, which alignment do you prefer being? Some hate being town, others are paranoid wrecks as mafia, and some just like third party, whether it's Cult or SK or whatever

Which do you guys like playing as the best? Which is your least favorite?

Town! I love actually figuring out who is mafia. Plus, I never know what to say when I've got something to hide. Town is way more fun for me on the boards.

However, IRL, I prefer mafia. It's more fun, I guess. Or my friends are noobs :P

Considering I've only been mafia once and lasted one night when I was mafia, I'd prefer it just because I just want to experience it. Being town is boring if you don't have a fun role and at least if you're mafia vanilla you still can help plan the kills and whatnot.

When I'm town I'm always lynched bc I actually try to help out and it always looks scummy.

I'm terrible at being scum because I suck at making stories up under pressure and I'm really not THAT informed of the game to come up with good alibis and the like.

By default, third party is my fav.

I've never properly been mafia. Only once and my team was so dysfunctional that I don't count it. It was a disaster. They got themselves picked off and didn't give a shit about the game. I think if you work with some really awesome people, it could be so much fun. But I never got the chance to.

SK was fun when I was Kenneth but it's incredibly challenging. Plus you kind of have to be discreet as a SK and it's just impossible for me to keep my mouth shut during a game.

A good Town role and Cult are both fun to be. The two games I did my best in, I was cult. So I'll lean towards Third Party.

Definitely town with a side order of third party. I absolutely loathe being mafia. I think the only time I've been overtly successful as mafia was in Wikey's UFO game and that doesn't count due to crippling inactivity. There was another way back on EN that I think went okay, but I don't have fond memories of playing that side at all.

Third party, especially cult is tremendously fun but carries a risk. I hate surviving a night-kill and having to explain it away because I never know how to approach it. Risk claiming a role and getting scanned, claim vanilla and get FOS'd, claim it was random unforeseen circumstances? Always just seems impossible to shake off. Also Cult means you can die via any recruit at almost any time and both runs I've taken at that ended horribly (thank you Curtis).

Town is always a safe route. With nothing to hide you can post genuinely which makes things a lot easier. I don't have to constantly vet my posts for slips and be extensively careful. I like building cases and there's a real sense of accomplishment when you succeed at it. It feels so much more earned than a scum victory.

As far as getting lynched goes, that never bothers me as town much anymore. It's been a while since I was lynched as town I think, and even if you're night-killed early on it doesn't matter so long as you do whatever you can in the time you play.

I'd safely say my favourite ever mafia game was as Domingo in ATTWSII. That was pure case-building, pure brainstorming, everything I love about playing the town side.

I've only been 3rd Party once (SK) but I would love to try it again. Cult as well.

I'm not sure which I like more town or mafia. I like the challenge of trying to figure out who is scum band as mafia I find it hard to try and defend my scumbuddies while not drawing too much attention to myself.

I guess Town is my choice but only for lack of playing as 3rd party.

But I like Mafia to be ~mysterious~

Ultimately went with Town though. I would prefer either of those to Third Party!

It depends on if I like my mafia partners.

Third Party. I'm the only one to win as an SK and a Cult Leader in EN/FE mafias. I'M QUITE PROUD OF THAT FACT!

But it's just more interesting to me. Second would be town, although I seem to always get stuck with boring roles or no roles at all.

And like Paul I absolutely HATE being mafia. I'm always so paranoid and usually fairly bad at it. It's not very fun!

Pros and cons to all three though. I'm able to survive way longer as mafia typically. My life span as third party is so low. I've been third party survivor three times and all three times I was killed on N1. Third party is usually where some fun and inventive roles are at, so that's always fun

Being town and trying to catch scum is always really fun. And I feel like I never have much to lose as town so I can do whatever really, like acting super shady. Being mafia makes you paranoid but I always find that pretty fun. Keeps you on your toes

I'm mafia 70% of the time, I'm used to bullshitting.

I like being town because i can be honest and point things out that I see legitimately.

But really what I really like is SK. You're your own man and it's very freeing. Being Richard and riding on all the lies in ATTWSII was Crazy! Mixing the kills up and pulling crazy stunts.

Being cult is kind of like being town because you don't have any blood on your hands but it kind of sucks being dragged into that when you had town on your mind. Although I must say Gulla Gulla was satisfying.

Scum is ok, I don't recall ever having a particularly good go at being mafia. And I always feel like I need to distinguish myself from the hive mind of it. People read into the actions of dead scum far too closely and I just want to throw people off the trail but I realise this is probably frustrating for fellow mafiaers.
