Just dropped on Netflix! The latest from Mike Flanagan (Hill House/Midnight Mass). The last in his Netflix deal iirc
Been looking forward to it, I think he's great. Reallyyyy liked Midnight Mass and Hush. Him reusing his regular cast members is like a much better AHS
I just watched ep 1, quite good. Excited to see where it goes

Just finished this, it was pretty fun. I liked it more than his last two projects.
I can't believe I didn't recognize Mark Hamill even though Pym was my favorite character.

I enjoyed this! I like all his stuff. I think it’s hard to rank them, but I think my favorites were Bly Manor and Midnight Mass. This was also very good though, and obviously Hill House is incredible.
I think The Midnight Club suffers slightly from feeling a bit more, idk “family friendly” I guess? Like, I think the target audience was more like the CW teen drama crowd. Still fun and obviously terminally ill kids is still dark subject matter but yeah. I think it’s a shame they didn’t give it a second season though since that was the plan.
I was thinking the same thing Curtis said re: the casting staples. I do consider Flanagan’s series to be like an elevated and better AHS. Anyway I enjoyed this! Faustian Succession.

Looking back my post kinda reads like I didn't like Midnight Mass which is not the case. I particularly loved the way the vampire was being tied into religion. That was a very cool idea that made me geek out at the time thinking "why hasn't any one thought of this before" (they probably had).

I had the exact same thought. I was like this feels like a no brainer?

Done! Great show
|
I really loved the format with each kid dying at the very end of each episode and then SMASH to title card. The predictability was kinda...nice. Loved when each one showed up as a ghost too
Kid deaths ranked:
1. Tamerlane
2. Froderick
3. Perry
4. Camille
5. Leo
6. Vic
Leo deserved a better death, a simple falling death in a show like this just won't cut it. Vic's was dumb too, just stabbing herself. Tamerlane's was so good, I loved it. Froderick's too, Henry Thomas was so game for that character. He was such a buffoon to start and was so amusing until he turned into a real nasty boi. His poor wife
Lenore's death was a bummer, I liked the way Gugino played it though and I liked the monologue about how her mom goes on to do great things
Gugino was great. LOVED Mark Hamill, Pym was such a cool character. Really enjoyed their conversation in the finale and him not taking any deal. Sad that he got caught in the end tho
But Bruce Greenwood stole the show, would love to see him get more great roles like this. He really killed it, I really enjoyed every convo with Auggie. Loved Auggie too
One gripe is young Frederick's flashback turn. I was like damn he's a pretty good dude, would take something major for him to turn into the Frederick we know today. But idk, I thought it was too sudden. Also Frederick's death was the worst one which kinda stinks, his should've been either the most brutal or the most poignant. I get his sis killing him the way their mom killed their dad + the actual house of Usher falling on him is poignant, but I would've liked a bit more
Great stuff all around, a fun watch. This and Midnight Mass were the best imo. I remember hosting what must've been Fright Night mafia when Haunting of Hill House came out and my roommate kept putting episodes on at night when I was trying to update mafia so I kinda missed a ton, so I didn't really get the full experience there. And Bly Manor I gave up on after two or three eps, didn't really dig it. Not gonna watch the kid's one
