that naming convention is one of the dumbest mini-trends
just call it Knives Out 2: Glass Onion if you're gonna keep Knives Out in the title anyway lol

Obviously wanted to like it, loved the first one and whodunnits are my fave. And overall it was fine but it just...didn't really do it for me
Bigger was definitely not better here. I didn't like the location very much, it wasn't that interesting and I didn't like the way it looked. I don't think it was used too effectively, they didn't do anything all that fun with it
The characters....eh. Craig is great but kinda took a backseat a little? I dunno why they did that. I wanted more Blanc. Kate Hudson tried too hard imo, too many people seem to be too easily won over by her character, she was pretty standard. Hahn was underused, some others ultimately had nothing to do too. In the first one every actor/character got their chance to shine and all had memorable moments, not so much here
And my biggest gripe is that the mystery was pretty boring. I was invested in figuring out who did it ofc, but by the end I was just like....aight. There were no great reveals or twists or a-ha moments, not a lot of clever sleuthing from Blanc, nothing stand out about it
Weird editing too, especially during the box opening intro and the Hudson swirling dress “look at me look at me!” scene, I didn’t like those bits at all
Really didn't like the third act. The glass smashing and fire sequences were dumb. The other characters joining in on the glass smashing was a bit cringey
Very sad! I thought I'd enjoy it a lot and saw a lot of people rank it higher than the first, but it's no where close for me. 6/10
Still looking forward to a third/as many as they wanna make, I just hope it's a bit more grounded like the first

Interesting. I thought it was good but unlike you I went in with zero expectations or hype. So maybe that’s the big differentiator | --------------------

It was still good/fine and had its moments. Just wasn’t great and could’ve/should’ve been much better

yeah I'd echo a lot of what Curt said. It was really well constructed but ultimately didn't add up to much for me. I didn't find any of the new characters all that interesting except for maybe Cassandra/Helen

ending definitely fell flat for me. Nowhere near as good/memorable as the "My House My Rules My Coffee" moment |

Knives Out was so, so, so good. Oscar Best Picture nomination good. So I was really looking forward to this one. Ultimately it didn't amaze me like the first one did. I think it wasn't satisfying enough. Still really fun and I enjoyed it.

I was able to immediately solve it when the second murder happened, and the third attempted one all but screamed confirmation even without knowing the twist that was to come, but that's not a terrible knock on it.
One issue, perhaps THE issue, was the way they handled Norton's character to dismiss audience questions. His biggest trait becomes he's an idiot by the end and that's why this, that, and the next thing didn't or did happen. Hand waving any potential "well why didn't he X" questions by hanging a lantern on and hammering in that he's just dumb. He thinks he's a genius who can outsmart anyone, even Blanc, even after he ruins his murder mystery party in less than a minute. It works, it does, but it's jarring and the ending is a bit strange. I think they could've had that same sentiment without boiling it down to him being dumb. Smart people can do dumb things with the right reasons set up. Or some complication arising. There's so many "why did he" or "why didn't he" questions that do make him seem beyond dumb, but that is the nature of the beast. Being dumb isn't a plot hole. |
