It's only been two years since the Pakistani military put an end to the most recent local uprising, ending what had been 4 years of peace and relaxation for the native Kashmiri peoples. With the Pakistani victory, new flags started to appear across the countryside along with the quick construction of many new mosques. Having finally conquered the lands they had laid claim to for generations, the President ordered his top military aides to stay in Kashmir to assist with the assimilation of the locals.

The locals were sick and tired of foreign actors coming into their ancestral lands and assuming control of a people and place that did not belong to them. This land did not belong to anybody, but their ancestral ties to the region ran deep, and they considered themselves the ultimate stewards of this valley and all of the resources within it. They knew they didn't possess the military might to take down the formidable Pakistani army, so they must resort to other, slower means by which to retake the lands they have called home for generations.

All the while, interested foreign parties were keeping a close eye on the brewing conflict between the locals and the current rules, looking for any opportunity to sneak in and get themselves a piece of the riches hidden within the hills.

Will the locals return to power and hopefully a longer-lasting peace? Or will the Pakistanis flex their military might and quell any and all uprisings? Only time will tell...
