I saw this a couple days ago in the theater. Everyone I went with hated it, and were visibly bored whenever I looked over at them making their audible yawns and checking the time on their phones. The only other people in the theater were in the row ahead of us and two of the women were on their phones, bright white screens shining, as they scrolled through facebook for over an hour as soon as the movie began, one of them even taking a call and talking to someone for 20 minutes of it right there in their seat.

Probably decreased the experience, but I found it visually stunning in the theater. I don't know if vignettes is the right word, but lots of scenes/settings that are commenting on one another while not really following a typical stories structure. There's a uniqueness to it all. It's saying things without beating you over the head, but some people might prefer to be beaten over the head.

This is apparently just straight up going to Amazon Prime and stuff on Thursday.

oh yeah I forgot there was a thread for this, saw this a few weeks ago

really liked it, more and more the longer it sat for me. The surreal/dream-like/pretentious quality of it is something that I can easily love or hate in a movie but it really worked for me here, I think I mostly appreciated such a sincere and faithful take on one of these MYTHS. Didn't really do a ton try to modernize it or add more internal logic to the quest, which was kinda refreshing

Beautiful visuals obv and despite the surrealism the themes were still pretty clear. Really loved the ending especially

debated with my friend after if he actually got his head chopped or not. I felt like it was really obvious he did, but he was convinced the Green Knight spared him. Apparently in the original story he DOES get spared but Lowery's made some comments saying his intention was that he does lose his head. So I guess...either?? I can see why he left it ambiguous though since in the end...it doesn't really matter. Either way Gawain embraces his fate and leave it in the GK's hands

would be cool to see Lowery take on more Arthurian tales but considering how much general audiences hated this movie I unfortunately doubt he'd even get the chance
