The visuals, acting, portrayal of relationship dynamics, foreshadowing, etc. are on a different level from the vast majority of horror movies, which makes it all the more disappointing that it still resorts to characters being idiots (or one specific character in this case: Christian) to move the plot forward.

"We need to be open to their culture" after seeing a ritualistic suicide--actually, none of the characters besides the Brits had a realistic reaction. They were initially shocked but it didn't really last long at all.
"I really shouldn't, I'm afraid I'll have a bad trip" after being handed a mysterious beverage, to which one of the cultists is just like "Drink it" and he's like "Eh ok" |
