1917 as well
a wee bit disappointed tbh! I definitely enjoyed it but I think I was a bit too hyped for it. It was about what I expected when I first saw the trailer/heard that Deakins was shooting this as a faux "oner" - a great theater experience held together by a couple decent characters that you only somewhat care about/connect with
But boy did it look great. Especially when it transitions into night in that town, OOF. Wish they didn't spoil the money shot (Schofield weaving between artillery strikes) in the trailer but o well
No idea why they settled on 1917 for the name tbh! Out of all the war movies to just name after the year, this one seems the least likely cuz it had such a relatively small focus. ODD! |
| I fully expect this to win Best Picture, and though there's PERSONALLY 5+ movies I'd put ahead of this from last year, it wouldn't be a bad choice. Obviously deserves cinematography at the very least
Definitely agree with the Dunkirk comparisons and that this was a superior version of that | it definitely benefited from the theater but I agree with most of your points. It really did feel like one long video game cutscene for the most part. Great spectacle but "just" an above average/pretty good movie. Glad it didn't win Best Picture |
