The witness is actually a game I wouldn't recommend very much. It's very pretty but the game was frustrating because there's 0 story whatsoever. There's like bonus clip things you can find/solve but they're too abstract to give a shit about. The puzzles are decent though, so if that's all you're interested in, go for it. But if you're expecting to like explore and discover secrets of a cool island, you'll be sorely disappointed.
I would recommend the talos principle instead! The story, while kinda pretentious and philosophical, is at least present and interesting. And there's a wider variety of puzzles which I really enjoyed. And it's cheaper than the witness! It's not AS pretty as the witness but it has some cool visual moments, but I still think it's a way better game overall |
seconded, Talos is gr8. I have a habit of dropping puzzle games the first time I get majorly stuck on something, but Talos is one where it felt super rewarding/fulfilling whenever I'd finally figure some of the harder ones I'd been banging my head against. And I actually did enjoy the story for what it was
Along the same vein, if anyone hasn't played Braid yet (the original game by the guy who made The Witness), I'd definitely recommend that. One of the best puzzle games AND has a p good story. Only $4.50 right now |
