*Brian has been poisoned today |
"of course." said Patrick as he looked at his coin pouch compared to everyone else's.
The group of nine and Cumtis stared at the foreboding, rickety bridge before them. It was the only way across.
"imma go first." said Igor as he made his way to the front of the pack. "watch and learn pussies."
Igor stepped his hoof outwards onto the first wooden board. It creaked and bent beneath his weight, but it didn't give. As he crossed the midway point, his large frame slowly began to dim through the thick fog until it was lost entirely. One hoof after the other, Igor steadily made his way across the bridge with absolutely no issue.
"LETS GOOOOO!" echoed from the other side of the valley, a sign that he had made it across safety.
Jamie and Brian were next. Brian pranced across as Jamie hopped from plank to plank. Brian's heavy hoof jammed down on a board and snapped it in two, sending the shards of wood tumbling down the deep valley. Brian regained his composure and quickly galloped the rest of the way. The two made it to the other side and rejoined Igor.
"You're one of the lightest, I think I'll go with you." Curtis said to Bryce as he hitched a ride on his wing.
Bryce flew a bit from board to board, the air too thick with fog to allow him to fly straight through. Even his small weight managed to snap a few boards, but the two made it by with little issue.
"Ready partner?" Rose said as she faced DS. Darren sighed. Despite being just a cub he was still undoubtedly one of the heaviest of the group. He didn't like his chances as he waddled his way onto the bridge with Rose just ahead.
Rose danced from plank to plank swiftly as Darren nervously followed suit. His fears were unfounded as the two made it across with little issue.
KC, Patrick, and Nofo remained. They stared down the long bridge, now missing a few more planks.
"Together?" asked Patrick.
"Sure." said KC. Nofo nodded in agreement and flew onto the first beam.
The three slowly crept down the bridge in a single file line. Nofo flew onto the next plank just as it fell loose. He lunged his body forward and managed to land safely onto the next one unharmed.
Curtis and the other six waited nervously on the other side. The thick fog made it impossible to see what was going on, but the sound of planks snapping didn't sound good. Suddenly, the shadow of a figure grew larger and larger as it slowly came into view...
It was Nofo. He faded into view and managed to rejoin the group. Everyone's attention turned back to the bridge where KC and Patrick's fate hung in the balance.
"Hey hurry up." said KC as he marched behind Patrick.
"I hate heights. The wife and I once went to-"
-SNAP-
A board beneath KC gave out suddenly. He slipped down and clawed ferociously at the board in front of him. Patrick sprung into action and turned back to help his former partner. KC's claws dug deep into the wood as his back two legs kicked in the air below the bridge, trying to find some traction.
Patrick held out his front two paws and tried in vain to grip onto KC.
"I don't have any thumbs!" he shouted.
Just then, Patrick lunged over KC's head and positioned himself behind him. Using the force of his snout and forehead, he managed to push KC's body upwards enough for him to claw himself back to safety.
The two regained their breath and composure before chuckling at the close call.
KC continued with Patrick right behind. Patrick took a step forward and heard the board beneath him crack. He looked down and saw the cracks spreading from his paw before looking back up at KC.
"of course." Patrick uttered as the board completely gave way.
Patrick's furry body plunged through the newly formed hole and careened down the valley. KC screamed out as Patrick's shrieking grew more and more faint on his way down. His body crashed off the jagged rocks lining the valley, silencing his screaming and sending him into the raging river below. He was lost.
