It does strike me pretty odd that they're doing an early release without a story though, from the trailer it looked like this was gonna be a purely narrative-driven game ala Bioshock. Kinda will be disappointed if that ends up as a secondary aspect in the finished game
IIRC they're doing a weird experimental narrative thing with it, where there are multiple characters with different stories, and the city itself is procedurally generated, along with some elements of the story(?). Not entirely sure!
There's some survival aspect to the gameplay too, where you have to be stealthy and try to blend in with the rest of the city. You can take small hits of joy so you don't look too out of place, but if you do, you risk losing yourself and your goal. And it's roguelike, so if you get killed or caught or whatever, there's no going back.
I just hope its not in alpha for too long! The Long Dark is supposed to be a story driven episodic but it's been (a really pretty and surprisingly good) early access survival game for almost 2 years at this point with no release date set for story, only a few teasers to remind everyone that sandbox survival's not all they are. Apparently they decided to totally rewrite it and at a second protagonist.
We Happy Few is meant to be full released this year though so I'm looking forward to Summer of 2017 for that.

I've been watching a lets play of We Happy Few because $30 is way too much for a buggy mess right now. It looks like it'll be a good game by the time it's full release comes but right now... well... it's a buggy mess (:
I kinda get why they did early access though. It's a proceedurally generated open world game with lots of non-linear quests. The survival part is pretty stable but the quests break a lot.
It doesn't look great yet, but when they add in the actual narrative instead of just the broad strokes it'll probably be a lot better. Pacing is looking like a weakness though, as is balance, but balance is really easy to fix.

Tropico 4 is free right now on Humble Bundle. RECOMMENDED! Very fun game.
Play as a dictator of a Carribean island nation being used as a pawn by the US and USSR during the Cold War. Avoid nuclear war! Embezzle funds! Fight the rebels!
It's a really neat little game

Seconded.
There's also a sweet gamemaker bundle if anyone wants to make games.
Those assholes. People need to stop buying EA's bullshit.
Battlefront 2 was released a decade ago and it had 10 times as many features as this so called sequel, which seems to have gutted everything good from the series and turned it into Call of Duty with a Star Wars skin.
And now to top it all off they are selling content that was supposed to be in the initial release and dubbing it an expansion pack. Fuck that
