What I have learned is that you do not have a personal genre definition and that whatever "the crowd" tells you you will follow. It tells me you've never watched a 'horror' movie and said "I wouldn't really call this horror' but instead you just go with whatever others tell you is horror.

How can you have any pudding if you won't eat your meat?

And actually, I think Ridley and I would have a discussion of why Alien is or isn't horror, because he would have a definition in mind and we would discuss the elements of each of our definitions and then apply them across all of the Alien franchise films as well.

Now, if you had a definition yourself to counter with then maybe these could be a conversation instead of "You're wrong because people told me it is horror and therefore it must be!"

Granted, I'd also tell him I was sorry Tony was gone and that The Hunger was one of his best works IMO.

I'm still waiting for your definition, which you don't seem to have. I can only assume you think Mary Poppins is horror because that trailer said "horror" on it.

A horror film is a film that seeks to elicit a physiological reaction, such as an elevated heartbeat, through the use of fear and shocking one’s audiences. Initially often inspired by literature from authors like Edgar Allan Poe, Bram Stoker, and Mary Shelley, horror has existed as a film genre for more than one century. The macabre and the supernatural are frequent themes. Horror may also overlap with the fantasy, supernatural fiction, and thriller genres.

Horror films often aim to evoke viewers' nightmares, fears, revulsions and terror of the unknown. Plots within the horror genre often involve the intrusion of an evil force, event, or personage into the everyday world. Prevalent elements include ghosts, extraterrestrials, vampires, werewolves, demons, satanism, evil clowns, gore, torture, vicious animals, evil witches, monsters, zombies, cannibalism, psychopaths, natural or man-made disasters, and serial killers.[1]

Some subgenres of horror film include action horror, comedy horror, body horror, disaster horror, holiday horror, horror drama, psychological horror, science fiction horror, slasher, supernatural horror, gothic horror, natural horror, zombie horror, first-person horror, and teen horror .

Horror Films are unsettling films designed to frighten and panic, cause dread and alarm, and to invoke our hidden worst fears, often in a terrifying, shocking finale, while captivating and entertaining us at the same time in a cathartic experience.

Horror film definition: a film with a frightening storyline and atmosphere

Horror film, motion picture calculated to cause intense repugnance, fear, or dread.

Horror films are unsettling movies that strive to elicit the emotions of fear, disgust and horror from viewers. They often feature scenes that startle the viewer through the means of macabre and the supernatural, thus frequently overlapping with the fantasy and science fiction genres. Horrors also frequently overlap with the thriller genre.

A large and heterogeneous group of films that, via the representation of disturbing and dark subject matter, seek to elicit responses of fear, terror, disgust, shock, suspense, and, of course, horror from their viewers.

here I wrote all these ones myself too

you'll notice that Alien fits within each of them because it is a horror movie of course

meanwhile the vlady re-definition which was only created by him to try to help his laughable argument:

"a horror movie has to make you afraid of doing an irl task after watching it"

It's outrageous how dumb this is

True, but yours also doesn't include submarine sandwiches, which are called sandwiches.

But here we at least have a line to discuss, rather than Curtis stealing a Wiki definition and claiming it is his. We can at least discuss where your line is drawn, whereas Curtis can only include Scary Movie as a horror film because Wiki told him it was.

There are counters to most of Vlady's arguments.

-It doesn't invoke the fear of getting your starcruiser hijacked by monsters. It DOES play the universal fear of the unknown.
-Scott actually did try to "scare the shit out of people" with this movie.
-etc, etc, etc.

Instead of doing that, he quotes a half baked wiki link and calls vlady a poophead.

COnclusion:
Curtis is lazy and kind of a child.

Yes, you are clearly crushing with you "Other people told me it was horror so I just obey what they tell me to think" argument. That's very strong.
