Agreed, it was aiiiiiiiiiiiight. I didn't LOVE the first one and was similarly disappointed by this one, but it didn't really ever BORE me at least. It was a fine enough time
I thought there was a weird lack of chemistry between the adult losers? Which idk, maybe that was slightly intentional since part of the Derry intrigue is that they literally completely forgot each other and were just warming up to each other again. I kinda just wish they didn't spend so much time in the middle splitting up for ooga booga jump scares and spent more time together rekindling friendships/on screen chemistry. Would've helped I think
All the actors were good tho. Bill Hader really was dream casting, he did great and his humor worked. He nailed some Finn Wolfhard nuances from the first movie I think. I do wish the Richie + Eddie stuff was more evident in the first movie, that all came outta the blue. Unless I totally missed signs in pt 1 that I don't remember. But at least it was some development and made Richie even more interesting, I can't really say the other adults got the same treatment. No one changed all that much
The CGI faces on the kids was FUUUUUUUUUCKING AWFULLLLLLLLL. My god. That clubhouse scene especially. And they talked in like, fast-forward. Their thin mouths moved so awkwardly and unnaturally and their voices were so high pitched and fast. Did they really not have the foresight to shoot those very few scenes before the kids all hit puberty? Idk if those scenes were in the book but if they were then it'd have been even easier to shoot that material back then. Or they could've at least just gone with the post-growth spurt kids and have the flashbacks take place after they defeated Pennywise and before they all started to leave town. That would've been much better imo, showing them leave one by one might've actually been kinda sad and added more
The scares were...lacking. This guy isn't a very good horror director, it's all modern day cgi jumpiez and none of the cgi monsters looked very good. Pennywise is already a very scary character, USE HIM! I feel like we barely got to see him. Skarsgard was great again but underutilized, what a shame. Bowers was also just a big waste of time
I was sad Eddie died even tho I knew it was coming because of the original movie. Ole ZIGGY was my second favorite of the adult actors/characters, he was good. Great casting there. The little dog scene with him and Hader was hilarious, probably the funniest scene of the movie. I could've used a lot more of him/Hader together, especially since Richie's crush on Eddie was supposedly a thing
Ending battle was....eh. Could've been way better, it was mostly just running away from spider Pennywise. I wish they actually fought a regular sized Pennywise. His death was exactly the death you'd expect so it was a little anticlimactic
All in all I just really wish we got Cary Fukunaga's version of this, it would've been so much more worthwhile and I bet his horror element would've been way stronger. A shame. The two movies are fine and I'm so glad they went R instead of PG13. And horror movies making money and being bankable is a p good thing so I'm cool with them both, they'll never never be anything particularly special to me. The most exciting part of either movie was the dream casting coming to life between both parts tbh |

oh and I laughed at the THING homage. The spider head and Bill Hader dropping the classic "You gotta be fucking kidding me" Thing quote | |

oof, echo a lot of Curtis' thoughts here. I didn't love the first one but thought it was pretty solid (mostly due to the kid actors, which was further reinforced here whenever they popped up - wayyy better than the adults), but this was mostly just pretty dull. All the overt winking at "that author really doesn't know how to end his stories huh ;) ;) " would've been better if...they actually ended this well
some of it was okay tho!

Hader really was the bright spot of this movie, he nailed it. Not only was his performance great in a vacuum but he specifically nailed Finn Wolfhard's character like Curtis said. McAvoy and Chastain were p underwhelming next to him, not that they had nearly as much to work with. What a waste of a great cast
And yeah, this really wasn't scary at all - the first one wasn't that scary either but at least had some effective moments thanks to (normal-size) Pennywise. All the CGI monsters in this not only looked poor but felt more like something you'd see in Goosebumps, not an R-rated horror movie. Maybe I'm misremembering but I thought in the trailer when the old lady runs at Bev she's normal-sized? That was actually a fairly creepy sequence until the stupid oversized CGI creature came out. Honestly the only sequence to really bring out some dread in this was the bleachers scene (which was kinda like a lite version of the Georgie/boat scene)...which, again, is mostly thanks to the actual Pennywise being in it. Richie being deadlight'd was p spooky for a sec but ended too quickly/predictably
The scene with Eddie fighting the bully was maybe my fav of the movie? If for nothing else but the "...and cut your mullet, it's been like 30 years!" line |

I saw this Sunday night finally.

I thought it was pretty good and enjoyed it. Wouldn't say it was GREAT but it kept my attention enough to where I didn't mind the long ass runtime at all.
The BIG SILLY MONSTER parts were pretty tacky and we just ended up laughing at most of it. It definitely came off as more of a comedy than anything else and tbh... it worked in that aspect as we laughed more than anything. A lot. Maybe it helped that I was in a big group this time with a relatively empty theater. It's just a shame there wasn't more of Pennywise the Clown as the small parts he did have were really good and probably the most creepy of the movie. The head banging and bleacher scene were both great.
I'll echo literally everyone else's thoughts and say that Richie was the best part of the movie by a long shot. His scenes were all pretty great. The door scene with the dog was hilarious. |

I saw this today finally.

It was FUCKING LONG! I had to go to the bathroom twice and I feel I only missed some blood/gore which was all most of the movie was anyway. I did get bored and wanted it to hurry up and be over. Other than that I liked some of it. lol.... It seemed like they tried to make the ending SO MUCH MORE special effects laden than the first one, which it was, but it just seemed a bit meh and try-hardy imo. |

Who kisses underwater in a lake? You're basically drinking in fish poop while you kiss. |
