Yeah. I'm not complaining about the deadlines, etc... they just turn it into a completely different game.
I don't like when the day ends in the evening, though. It kind of puts people who don't often get on at night at a disadvantage.
I do like the pace of the games here. There are just a lot of things that are different. Omgus votes never seem to be questioned, reaction testing is frowned on, and pressure to the point of claiming is nearly never reached until the very end of a day.
I'll figure it out eventually, or I'll just troll the shit out of people until they kill me.

I do like that the days are too fast to accommodate the 40 pages hatefest type arguments that can develop in these games. Those are fun, but only if you are participating. They suck to wade through when you aren't directly involved.

I've played games with 3-5 day phases and it's excruciating. Talk about no one posting, it's ridiculous. If you really think you can't check in within a 24 hour period you probably just shouldn't sign up. |

I think the thing about people switching trains, jumping all over you, etc, etc is just an individual thing. I don't think it's a "board thing," you're obviously used to a close circle of friends who play a certain way and I think there are just a lot of different types of players here. You can't can't put all of "us" in a category like you're trying to do.
Lurking doesn't always mean scum, though. It can and I agree it's frustrating but you just get to know that certain people will be helpful later on if they're not scum but maybe they're just busy in the first few days. |
I don't mean to imply every non-GLB person plays the same way. It's just an observation I've made in the 4 or 5 games I've played here. About half the people "lurk" through the first couple of days, which is really easy with such short days.
My main concern with all the late vote switching, is that if you aren't online during that last hour or two, you can get completely railroaded without any chance to respond. If people wanted to push trains or claim info/reads to drive trains, why wait until the last hour?
|
Also, I think the point about how people "can't take a joke" as far as fake-claiming to test reactions is contradictory to the "lynch all liars" I constantly hear. I just think you're trying to put things in a neat little package and it's not going to happen. Ever. |
Why can't everybody play by my little rules? It'd make the game so much easier. ;)
Like schrauben said, you can gain a ton of information through reaction testing. There is a subtle difference between "reaction testing" and "lynch all liars". What schrauben did that day was probably closer to "lynch all liars" since he made a distinct provable claim.

I think reaction testing is done now and then.

I'd say just keep playing it the way you like, eventually ppl may go along and form trains early and accept the reaction testing etc. :p I think it's fun that we have such a diverse group!

I think reaction testing works better some games than others. Lately we've had the OMGUS lynch-all-liars hard rule last minute trains. I honestly think its because day phases during the actual day time and late night are low activity, then there's a surge of activity at the start of evening when people have time. And when you'retoo busy/cbf to read early catching up entirely gets hardso people lurk or tunnel because they haven't registered everything said (guilty of this)
Part of why we don't go for lurkers later on is we have a pretty big track record of these people just being lazy town and it ends up a distraction/waste of a lynch.
I'd kind of like to try a longer day with plurality off game. I love requiring majority, but it's just not a thing with 24hours usually.Dunno how popular though would be though! | d ( i n o s r o a ) r

I found it funny that you guys blamed me on Day 2 for the tie when 10-12 people logged on the last 30 minutes and only 3-4 actually voted. Lurkers gonna lurk. |

If you make it longer than 24 hours it just makes people lazier.

24 hours is fine. However, perhaps it would help if Saturday and Sunday was counted as a single, 24 hour day. A day that opens on a Friday night and closes on a Saturday night is probably going to always have very low participation.

Best scum tactic here would be to agree to get on late evenings and weekends. A team that did this could completely control the lynch and sweep the game quickly.
