I think I need to teach the GLB brigade the value of diplomacy. In return they can teach me how to come off less scummy lol.

I'm trying to figure out how to play over here.
The time limits and plurality rule make it a completely different game.

I don't mind the time limits, and the plurality is almost required in these bigger games (we are used to 7-12 people games) or you wouldn't ever lynch anyone for the first 3-4 days. The things that I find difficult to get a grasp on, is how quickly wagons switch and develop in the last hour before a lynch deadline, and how people just ignore lurkers.
We've all learned that lurking = scum, and if a person went 3 or 4 days to start a game without a meaningful post, they'd be either lynched or killed. Here, you can post nothing by jokes and easily make it to day 4 or 5 (see Curtis/Henry).
Lastly, jokes here don't go over the same. You can't make a fake claim here just to reaction test without people jumping all over you. I loved what schrauben did the day he got lynched, in directly claiming Herm killed someone. While most people knew it was false, the reactions to such a claim can give you a good idea of people and their roles/alignments.

I think to the time limits are what make it easier to "lurk". I like the shorter days and nights, but it's pretty easy to have a busy day/night and miss an entire day phase without even meaning to.

Lol, that's me who got lynched. Schrauben died at im317's hands the night that followed.
What was funny about that was that it made me think Schrauben was 100% scum and vice versa lol.

When I did it I really felt it was down to you, curtis or Wikey and I wanted to see who would jump right on. I thought Wikey was online at that time, for I thought I saw his name reading the thread, but he wasn't or loggedoff right after, and it ended up being only you and Curtis.
But you're right you're reaction to it did make me think you were scum, Curtis reaction helped clear him in my mind. I'm curious what Wikey would have done if he was online. I felt Wikey was scummy as shit from the time I caught up, and am glad his ass finally went down.
But as a VT, I feel it's my job to act like a PR so that I get taken out first, I've always enjoyed making fake claims like this once in awhile to try and just reactions, cause there can be alot to reading the reactions if it's somewhat believable.
I like to do more as a VT other than just trying to sort through the vote counts and interactions then just letting my vote do the talking.

I find these last-minute switches entertaining based simply from an active point of view, but they are quite chaotic as we saw this game lol. I think part of it has to do with players disagreeing/agreeing who's the right lynch until the very end.
One thing I've learned about lurkers is that they're not always scum, they can be town laying low/playing utr or they could even be busy with whatever. Players usually play somewhat consistently regardless of their alignment.

I've played games with 3-5 day phases and it's excruciating. Talk about no one posting, it's ridiculous. If you really think you can't check in within a 24 hour period you probably just shouldn't sign up.
I think the thing about people switching trains, jumping all over you, etc, etc is just an individual thing. I don't think it's a "board thing," you're obviously used to a close circle of friends who play a certain way and I think there are just a lot of different types of players here. You can't can't put all of "us" in a category like you're trying to do.
Lurking doesn't always mean scum, though. It can and I agree it's frustrating but you just get to know that certain people will be helpful later on if they're not scum but maybe they're just busy in the first few days.
Also, I think the point about how people "can't take a joke" as far as fake-claiming to test reactions is contradictory to the "lynch all liars" I constantly hear. I just think you're trying to put things in a neat little package and it's not going to happen. Ever.

Did everyone think it was me? or Timmah? |

JC, the vest you received from Canuck would only have protected you during the following night. It said so in both your PM and Canuck's role. Thanks Lamps, for replying to that.
And Canuck, Buffy tried to block you the night you gave the gun to JC, but Buffy was blocked by Redster. And also killed by Wikey. :P In the night actions, that meant that Buffy's action was blocked, not you. |
I see, thanks for the clarification.
