BTW, DC recently released a bunch of titles featuring new characters, and the similarities between them and Marvel characters is so cringeworthy.
For example, check out DC's Sideways. Remind you of anyone? lol
And DC's The Terrifics:
|
Fantastic Four anyone? |
DC's Damage:
|
They don't even try to hide the similarities. lol "There's a new SMASH in town." |
Those are just the ones I remembered off the top of my head. |
Don't know The Terrifics because I haven't picked it up, but the stretchy guy is Plastic Man, who originated in 1941 (twenty years before Stan Lee and Jack Kirby created Mister Fantastic and his stretchy powers).

One issue I have is that the character can be handled well or crappy and that can determine a lot. And some character types/personalities I just don’t like much if ever (see the Big Blue Banana: Superman).
Given that, here is the preferred choice, with some commentary when necessary:
Quicksilver or The Flash
I never read a lot of Flash, but have a friend who this is nearly his favorite character of all time. I’ve read enough of both characters to appreciate the deeper history of all the various Flashes (Yes, for those not in the know, there have been aI believe seven different Flashes over the years, starting with Barry Allen). Quicksilver I did like being retconned as Magneto’s kid, though.
Captain America or Superman
I really am not a huge fan of either character- that whole “truth, justice, American way” bullshit is a bit jingoistic for me. But I’ll give the edge to Cap.
Hawkeye or Green Arrow
Green Arrow has often been portrayed as darker than Hawkeye, plus in Frank Miller’s Dark Night Returns Oliver helps Batman beat up Superman by shooting a green Kryptonite-tipped arrow at him- and I love seeing Bat’s beat the shit out of Superman.
Ms. Marvel or Wonder Woman
Not a huge fan of either- WW is just a female counterpart to Superman (I’m not bulletproof, but effectively so with these bulletproof bracelets I am fast enough to block shit with).
Mary Jane Watson or Lois Lane
Mary Jane. Lois pining for Superman gets me a bit sick. :P
Black Cat or Catwoman
Hot criminal in cat suit? I’m sold. Bonus points for live action Julie Newmar or Michelle Pfieffer.
Spider-Man or Batman
Given me brooding anyday, especially when Miller was penning. Someone also noted Daredevil and Bats would make better comparison and it is not surprising that Miller penned some of the memorable DD stuff back in the day (and created Elektra).
Bucky or Robin
Robin, though we’ve had at least four incarnations now to choose from (Dick, Jason, Tim, and Carrie)
Namor or Aquaman
I think I’ve owned one Submariner book in all my time and it was OK. Aquaman wins because of Superfriends.
Scarlet Witch or Zatanna
Zatanna wins for her association with John Constantine. Love her bit in Books of Magic by Neil Gaiman.
Black Widow or Black Canary
Not a huge fan of either, but will give the edge to BW.
Deathlok or Cyborg
Cyborg wins for his portrayal on Teen Titans Go. lol
Deadpool or Deadshot
The Merc with a Mouth by a longshot (no pun intended).
Green Goblin or The Joker
This is a tough one, because GG can be great (and there have been multiple GGs along with the Hobgoblin iteration). But Joker, when written right, is too iconic and disturbing to leave out.
Thanos or Darkseid
This one is easy- Thanos is more interesting than Darkseid to me.
Jarvis or Alfred
Alfred by far.

I don't know which characters came first, but the decision to group these people together makes them very similar to The Fantastic Four. The female is even called Phantom Girl I think. lol | |
