Not really my style of movie but I found myself putting down my phone and paying more attention to it. Really liked the hot jams in the movie they were pretty great. My one complaint would be the lack of development in the other band members. The little bass player seemed pretty funny, I wanted more of him. Will definitely watch again with Nicole down the road.
"So, uh, what are we saying here? If we save LA from a nuclear bomb, then you and I can get together for dinner and a movie?"
went with a 7 although it felt weird rating it over Victoria on the scale. I think this was an overall better movie but at the same time parts of that one have stuck with me for a while, while I can see this one being less memorable (plus I just appreciated the uniqueness of Victoria a lot). But I think I'd sooner bump that up to a 7 than bump this down to a 6 so
BUT ANYWAY. It was p good, the first like 20 minutes really weren't drawing me in but it definitely picked up from there. Pretty generic romance but I thought they captured the awkwardness well and had a lot of fun with it. Like when she told him the song made her cry and he apologized, those moments were great
The older brother was unexpectedly the highlight of the movie for me, his breakdown scene was easily the peak of the movie, and I really liked his send-off at the docks too. Connor was also handled well, especially cuz that's the type of protagonist I hate in most movies but they made him vry rootable. Raphina was kinda disappointing to me though, she worked fine as the love interest but I feel like she had none of her own personality really. The scene where she jumped into the water was good and I thought would lead towards some deeper characterization but there still wasn't much after that. Also like Jacob mentioned, they could've done a bit more with the side characters as well. The bunny guy was the only one with much personality
I found myself liking both this and Victoria a whole lot more after a few days. Both had stuff that stuck with me many days after and made me wanna rate them higher on that scale. I feel like I've basically rewatched each one at this point because I've gone back to watch so many scenes
I rated Sing Street higher originally but I still think I liked Victoria more, hard to say tho cause they're so different
I was having trouble sleeping so I decided to turn this on. I had very low expectations going into this to be quite honest. But after watching it I gave it a...
8! That was great. I'm in a similar boat to Boc that it took me a minute to get into it but once the band came together, I was hooked. I'm a sucker for 80's period piece movies and they set the tone very well. The songs that were written for the film felt very authentic for the time and I loved that the band were influenced by a similar 80's band each time along with their style for wardrobes. They were all genuinely GOOD songs too, which took me by surprise. Characters were all great even with the lack of character development for the band members, they all were stars in the music video scenes which I think was more of the point.
