JANUARY: Jacob and I are watching five movies from AFI’s classic top 100 list (a randomized category)

https://boxd.it/3HSW

- Casablanca
- Citizen Kane
- Ben Hur
- Network
- Do the Right Thing

Some CLASSICS. Let’s see which hold up and which are outdated as shit

Hey we didn’t do this

We did five more leftover movies from 2018. Ranked:

1. Paddington 2 (4)
2. Suspiria (4)
3. Widows (3.5)
4. The Sisters Brothers (3.5)
5. Support the Girls (3)

We randomized the category for February and got five movies from the Criterion collection aka hopefully great movies despite 2/5 coming from rapey directors

- Chinatown
- Mirror
- Magnolia
- The Master
- Annie Hall

Excited for two PTA movies

Well it started out easy then it got kind of silly at the end. There's a few movies on here I don't even like. I thought Quiz Show was very boring but it's the only Q movie I watched. Same with X-Men, which I didn't like at all.

Had to STRETCH for V as I had no movies under V. I remember that I did watch the St. Valentine's Day Massacre from the 60's which technically is S, but I cheated and put it here. I'm surprised I've never watched V for Vendetta, but I never have.

Here's a sillai list idea: Top 20 Guilty Pleasures, wherein the films you list must have an overall letterboxd rating of 2.9 or lower. Thought this would be easy with how many rotten films I like. Still was kind of tough at the end. I was actually kind of surprised how many "bad" movies I like that were over 3.0. I had a few I knew I was going to include that didn't make the cut because of that.

made it a top 10 cuz after that it became a STRETCH to call anything a 'guilty pleasure'

it still astounds me how much people hated Anchorman 2. That movie was so much fun

1. Magnolia 9/10
2. The Master 8/10
3. Chinatown 7/10
4. Annie Hall 7/10
5. Blow Out 6/10

I loved Magnolia. It felt like it became an instant favorite for me which is rare. It’s so long but I’ve already basically rewatched it since I’ve been skipping around to so many scenes. Every scene is better the second time

The Master was pretty great too thanks to PSH and Joaquin. Two of the greats imo, they were both amazing. And the movie looked great. PTA is awesome

Chinatown and Annie Hall were both enjoyable. Nicholson was really entertaining in Chinatown and Annie Hall’s humor held up. Shouldn’t have beat Star Wars for best picture tho that’s just silly

Blow Out was fine, I don’t regret watching it. I like early Travolta. The female lead is one of the worst written characters of all time tho, it’s embarassing
