The "bread" is required to be sliced post-baking in order to put the filling in, so there is a reason an open-faced sandwich has sandwich in the name

Merc wants us to have special names for these because Iceland does. English has sandwich for everything that meets my above definition (and that's why hot dogs are still sandwiches).
How can you have any pudding if you won't eat your meat?

The fact that a number of people who argued that a hot dog isn't a sandwich because "sandwich" isn't mentioned have also come in here to indicate an open-faced sandwich is not a sandwich need to be more consistent in their deliveries.

How can you have any pudding if you won't eat your meat?

Hot beef sandwich may be a regional thing. Curtis had a strong opinion, but no idea what a hot beef sandwich was. Spin seems to have done the same since he posted a picture of half a hot beef sandwich.

I threw Italian beef out there because I figured the Chicago staple was present everywhere.
