https://a-z-animals.com/blog/grizzly-bear-vs-great-white-shark-which-encounter-is-more-dangerous/
This blog says Bear. though it’s mainly on the notion that grizzlies are more likely to be in the scenario Curtis described than a shark.
If I got an inner tube where I wasn’t treading water I think I’d lean towards the shark. A good punch to the nose and you win right?

Shark. The bear is going to claw you, bite you, literally tear you up. There's no way you're running from it. Your best chance is to play dead and still get mangled and let it bury you and then maybe you'll survive, maybe. A shark will make several passes and, yeah, most likely kill you but you can just drown yourself if you want to avoid the pain.

This might be an unpopular opinion but drowning may be a worse death than a shock inducing shark attack

The friend who keeps bringing this debate up and gets heated about it…..is the sole shark voter. The rest of us are team face the bear no question, he thinks we’re crazy and that the majority of people would agree with him. We’ve all asked other friends and coworkers and so far the only other person who has said shark is JJ (and Dyl if he had a floatie)
He believes he can stiff arm the great white as it’s coming at him. He doesn’t seem to understand that he almost certainly won’t even see it coming and that his arm isn’t shit against a 2000 lb shark ☠️. His arguments are really terrible made funnier by how passionate he is about them
To me the terrain is the difference maker. You’re fucked either way, but why would anyone rather be dropped in the ocean, have to swing your arms through water, and not even be able to plant your FEET! Vs at least TRYING to climb a tree or go out on a flimsier branch that bear wouldn’t follow you to, try to hide somewhere or lose it, try to use rocks or sharpened sticks..?? It’s clear as day. I would much rather be in a tree with the bear climbing at me and jabbing down at it with a stick vs be treading water and not even know which angle the shark is gonna attack from

Yeah whoever mentioned the polar bear was right about it evening the playing field at least a little bit (for the animal). Instead of trees to allow places to climb/hide and being in your own natural fit to fight, you have an open, barren landscape and have to slowly wade through knee deep snow. I think you still take the bear here just for being on land but it's at least not advantageous land

Also @ your friend. A shark isn't just gonna come from one angle and be defeated by an arm's length. They are a fish. They are floppy. That's not how it works! Not to mention the sharks that learned to breach out of the water to attack from below. Those are great white's too

Was at a wedding last night and contrarian friend brought it up again. He asked a bunch of people at the wedding and it was unanimous for bear

It's obviously Shark. All you have to do is punch it in the face and it will be so taken aback it will just swim away. They can't handle that shit, I'm speaking from experience

if a Grizzly Bear has decided it wants you dead and you are in the forest, unarmed, you are dead. Simple as. They are faster, stronger, and can climb. You can't hide from it and you can't outrun it, nor can you fight it.
The ol punch them in the face trick doesn't work on Grizzly's either.
It does work on Kangaroos though

Yikes. This is like voting in a US presidential election. Your f#cked either way. I guess I would take the shark. It's a more efficient killer and doesn't pummel you into immobility so it can eat your bowels while you're still alive.

I'm more confident I could beat up a bear with a big stick.
