Election's only one month away here now. It's bound to be the most interesting election we've had here in a while. I haven't really been paying attention since I went on vacation, but it's mostly been about fires in the news anyway.

The three major parties (Sweden Democrats: Nationalists/Right, Moderates: Capitalists/Centre-Right, Social Democrats: Centre-Left/Liberal Left) are basically around the same percentages. 23% for the Socialists, 22% for the Nationalists and 20% for the Capitalists.

We have more parties fighting it out, but they're around or below 10%.

There's the Left with 10%, who's further left wing than the Social Democrats, and the Centrist/Farmers Party who's closest politically to the Moderates.

It's gonna be a big juicy mess.

I sure wish we had more than the 2 corrupt (criminal organizations) political parties in the US.

Even though we have up to 8 political parties in our government, there's only really two sides, Left and Right, at least until the rise of the Sweden Democrats. The smaller parties are either in a coalition with one of the two big parties, so a vote for a small party is usually a vote for the big party that's in the same coalition.

We have the "Alliance", who consists of economically right wing parties like the Moderates, the Centrists, the Liberals and the Christian Democrats. They're traditionally more business oriented, and run on tax cuts for corporations, workers, privatization etc. The Moderates and Christian Democrats are more Conservative, whereas the Liberals and Centrists, are you know, more liberal.

Then there's the "Red-Greens", who consists of the Social Democrats and the Enviromentalists. The Left is part of this too, but they're generally more of an outsider since their beliefs are more to the left economically and on other issues.

Both coalitions end up at approximately 39%. It used to be much higher 10-12 years ago, but the Sweden Democrats has risen to 20% from 4% since 2006 and has made it impossible for either side to win 50% of the vote. Unless they're being included somewhere, which would be with the Moderates/Christian Democrats if anywhere, but the Liberals/Centrists are one of their biggest critics lol.

There's been talks of the Social Democrats working with the Moderates if it means keeping the Sweden Democrats out in the cold, which would be kinda funny seeing as their economic platforms are diametrically opposed.

Anyway, as far as the EU goes, there's actually been discussed a bit here in the debates, but not much. The Left, our party furthest to the left, and the Sweden Democrats, our party furthest to the right, want to leave it. Which means, we'll probably stay, as I don't see these two ever working together.

You guys actually have a Christian party?

They tried to make one in Iceland but they were just ridiculed and shunned.

What do they fight for?

They are not overly religious, despite their name. They're mostly a one issue party, and they stand for family values, improve care for the elderly and to some degree, christian traditions and that sort of stuff. They're doing the worst in the polls among the 8 parties, though. It's not like christianity is spoken of much in the debates, their focus is on other issues.

They've been polling around 2-3% ever since the last election in 2014, they need 4% to make it into the Riksdag. So it's possible they might not even make it in, but the Moderate voters always lend them a percentage or two so they make it in.

In debates, they usually focus on health care issues.

Votes are in and it's a TIE!

The Social Democratic/Left side and the Moderate/Liberal/Alliance side got more or less the same amount of percentage points (40,6% to 40,3%).

The Swedish Democrats aka nationalists, got much less than expected, around 17,6%.

No one wants anything to do with the Swedish Democrats, but no one can do anything without them.

Unless the left and right form some sort of majority on their own, which doesn't seem likely at this point.

Very familiar story playing out in several European countries it seems. Another stalemate.

Standing ovation from the Left Party during the election yesterday when the leader of the Sweden Democrats held his speech. Pretty unexpected lol.

So some nutter went on a rampage with a meat cleaver in my town this morning. He started fires in two seperate banks, and according to someone my sister knows who was an eyewitness (and actually confronted the dick head before armed police arrived) he was dousing petrol on old people in the bank too, presumably with the intention of setting them on fire. What a complete nob.

Anyway, luckily nobody was killed and he was caught. Nothing like this happens in this town ever. Fucking weird man.

I was supposed to be going to this exact area today too, but I changed my plans. Is it bad that I'm disappointed I missed out on this?
