Stray observations:
Just because your role doesn't appear to do anything, doesn't mean it isn't doing anything.

Never assume too much from flavour. Mostly applying to Kiwi who flat out refused to believe in an anti-virus due to flavour logistics. I'm playing a colourful destructive robot who became a hippy and the flavour never made logical sense to begin with. I could've had feefiaggizady turn into a dolphin and it would've been valid. Flavour is secondary to gameplay. Question the hard logic of the game, but rarely question the colourful salting.

METAMETAMETAMETAMETA. Seriously town, I know you won but this game was an absolute metagaming hell. Maybe it helped you out slightly but in many cases your metagaming was off completely. You almost executed your replacement cop because of "past games". Sometimes people just play a little differently, and it's been ages since we did mafia! So calm down!

I'm glad that people really got into this game. It's been a while since we had a mafia this active. You guys really brought it to life. It was fun to read and observe. I hope this marks a welcome return of mafia. Even though the game ran into some player inactivity problems that made the ending feel a little empty to me, I got a lot of genuinely nice and positive feedback from hosting it. The journey always matters more than the conclusion and that you guys enjoyed the journey is great.

Scumboard: http://www.ndimforums.com/cyberspace/forummain.asp

Hall of Lame:

Most of the Mafia
The scum team in general was a little...off base this game but Wikey made some really bad calls and decisions. He never questioned the validity of his suspicions that Rob was the fifth man, even when his second cop claim never held up following Malion's death and some of his night action suggestions were a little bizarre. I do respect that he tried to kill a less active townie on night one to keep the game more interesting though instead of the usual run of the mill game.

One of the strangest things though was that Wikey apparently forgot how bus drivers worked this game. He would toss out a command for the kill against a player (say Curtis) and then suggest that Shawn target Curtis with his bus driver role to prevent doctors from hitting him too.

Uhh...wikey....bus drivers change ALL the actions. So the kill would switch to. On at least one occasion I can remember he nearly resulted in unwittingly killing one of his own team because of this.

Grim was mostly fine but took a day before she realised there was a scum board.

Greenday was mostly fine but threw out far too many defences on day one to rival obvious joke lynches. Sweating from your collar and frantically yelling "I'M NOT SCUM" on the first day doesn't bode well.

The others were fine.

Rito:
Either start paying attention or don't play. Stop claiming you're god's gift to scum hunting. I put a lot of time into setup and flavour writing. You haven't got to read it but don't dash on, refuse to read any of the posts, add an unhelpful lynch and dash off again. Thanks.

Alex:
Upon making his first in game post, Alex managed to break at least two of the rules. It's a new record. He never seemed to quite understand the concept of the game until the final day despite the fact he's played mafia a fair bit before. His final day actions were fine but too little, too late really.

Mal:
Worst cop on record. Didn't pay attention and openly admitted it. His one viable contribution was pushing the lynches away from Rito who he'd scanned as town. But that was about all he managed and his poor posts and early lynch might have been lethal to the town in other circumstances.

Hall of Fame:

Rob's Gambit:
I've been on the fence with this one a lot, but I think had the mafia realised what Rob was doing it would've helped a tremendous amount. He confirmed himself as town and put himself in a very nice spot. It could have gone down that he was untouched by mafia, untouched by town and by the time anybody finally realised, he'd detonate on a lynch train and do a tremendous amount of damage. I think the strategy was foiled slightly because I mis-typed his role description slightly so I'll give him credit for the effort.

Shawn:
Shawn started this game running around in the dark with no real direction. Of the bots he was probably the weakest. But as the game commenced, Shawn's level of input and gameplay ability escalated a lot. He adapted quickly and learned a tremendous amount in a very short space of time. He made wise and sensible decisions (including refusing to follow wikey's stupid orders when he asked him to bus drive kill targets) and ended up having to carry the mafia on his own.

If it wasn't for Vernon's secondary scan power, Shawn would've lasted much much longer. He had drawn some heat but it was mostly dissipated because he started posting helpful and constructive discussion. He did fall into a few key tells that mafia players often do (the late game "lynching you will be beneficial even if you're town argument never makes sense") and was ultimately too defensive on the last day. But I have to hand it to him. MA PAGE DIDN'T RAISE NO DUMMIES.

The Town:
It would be unfair to rob you of a well earned victory. You did extremely well and were active, invested and most of all made the game fun and enjoyable. You asked the right questions, plenty of the wrong questions and just enough questions to see this through to its perfect and sensible conclusion. We've come a long way since we first began playing mafia, and our town can no longer be dubbed failtown. There were far too many good things happening this game.

Credit where credit is due. You guys earned the win completely.

Natalie's inventions:

Item A: Select two players. The following day, lynch votes may only be cast against these two.
Item B: Select a player. They will be killed regardless of any protection they have.
Item C: Select a player. That player will gain a single night-kill.

Item C was used on Shawn but he never put it to any use. An extra night and he might've done.

drr
Role Title: Mayor
Alignment: Town

Flavour: You are the leader of the puny humans but I suspect they will not respect you anyway. At least it gives you a chance for one fleeeting moment of authority prior to your inevitable doom.

Ability: Once during the course of the game, you can call off a lynch vote. This must be done before the voting reaches majority. The day will end in a no-lynch instead.

Curtis
Role Title: Doctor
Alignment: Town

Flavour: It seems you can prevent our attacks somehow. How annoying. Still, the worthless meatbags need all the protection they can get.

Ability: Once per night you may select a player. That player will be protected from attacks during that night. You cannot select the same player on consecutive nights.

Kiwi
Role Title: Vigilante
Alignment: Town

Flavour: You have some kind of special power, fleshbag. You can strike out and destroy others. This would worry us if we were afraid of humanity. We cannot process fear, but even if we could we would not.

Ability: Once per night you may select a player to attack. You cannot select a player on two consecutive nights.

korr
Role Title: Friendly Neighbour
Alignment: Town

Flavour: Worthless humanoid. We wish you didn't keep waltzing around and waving at everybody. You are ruining our plans. Not enough to matter or save you, but it's a minor inconvenience.

Ability: Once per night you may select a player. That player will be told that you are town-aligned.

Rito
Role Title: Universal Backup
Alignment: Town

Flavour: Tiresome mortal. You have no powers at all and are worthless. But it seems that you plan to step in and replace one of your fallen allies. We will not let you.

Ability: If any town with an investigative or protective role is killed, you will gain their role. This will only happen once.

Ari
Role Title: Vanilla
Alignment: Town

Flavour: Puny fleshbag, you have no powers at all. You are nothing but a weak sack of bones and sinew that will eventually expire, probably at our mighty hands.

Ability: None

Leaffan
Role Title: One-shot Bulletproof
Alignment: Town

Flavour: Pathetic human. Your armour is incomplete and weak. It will only protect you once and then we are free to destroy you as we please.

Ability: Once during the course of the game, you will be protected from any kill. If you are protected via another method on the same occasion, your bulletproof will still be kept.

Think that's all.

In theory Justin could've remembered he was playing, come onto the game and executed his primed kill list. He had accrued a couple of names on there. Up until Night 4 he was proactive. After that I stopped getting night actions and it meant every night ran for the full 24 hours.

My concern was that he wouldn't show up and this is the most likely course of action. I don't think he quite got the setup of the game since it's a little different from epic mafia and he's also busy hosting his own game so I figure he just drifted out of interest playing this. Either way it seemed viable that what was going to unfold was a shot in the dark game where town basically just kept guessing the lynches day after day for long 24 hour days, with very little to go off until they eventually struck gold and found him.

So because of his excessive inactivity, it seems the fair and balanced action to just call time on the game. I was hoping to have one last day at it to see if town would just lynch him (and poking Alex to actually play so he would maybe reveal his role, helping them to see a third party was the culprit). You came close but went with testing Drr's role instead which was fine. I just didn't want to drag things out.

Kudos town, you played a very very good game. Commiserations mafia and serial killer, you played an absolutely awful one.

Alright first things first, HERE'S THE DEAL FRIENDS.

I could have allowed this game to continue to its logical point of conclusion. It would've been the "balanced" option. It would've also been the most boring option, held up the game queue and created an unnecessary amount of work for me to keep rehashing day and night flavour. I know you were all having fun and I'm glad you enjoyed it, but at the point you reached there was very little left that could pose a threat to the town.

You surmised it correctly in that a third party was the only role left. That role was Justin's which was the virus. Here's the role description:

Quote
Role Title: Virus
Alignment: Third Party
Win Condition: Be the last surviving player, or be one of only two players left in the game.

Flavour: You are neither bot nor human. You trawl cyberspace looking to corrupt and destroy both of our units. We would almost respect this, if you were not intent on killing us too. Have mercy on our forces as you strike out. Letting the humans win is unforgivable.

Ability: Once per night you must select a player to prime. That player will become "infected".

During the course of any day phase other than the first, you may submit an action to activate the virus. All the players you have infected will be killed once you do.

In addition to this, you are immune to all attacks at night and any investigative roles will scan you as vanilla town.

This role wasn't entirely invented for this game. It was a flavour variation of the arsonist role which is fairly common. An arsonist primes players and can choose a night in which to detonate the primed players, thus killing them. They have to win the game like any other serial killer does. I thought this variation would make for a poor balance, mostly because I also included the anti-virus role, which was my game's answer to the Firefighter. LSFIssue aka Alex had this role, and this was that description:

Quote
Role Title: Anti-virus
Alignment: Town

Flavour: You may have the ability to destroy viruses, fleshbag. But you do not have the ability to destroy us. Resistance is, and always will be futile.

Ability: Once per night you may select a player. If that player has a virus, their virus will be removed.

The point is that Alex could effectively remove the threat of the detonation by hitting the right people. As target numbers decrease, the probability of both parties hitting the same target increase and so it seemed that even though the virus had the BP and the vanilla scan, common aspects of the serial killer role it was actually underpowered because unlike a serial killer, it could only kill possible targets when it wasn't priming them.

I thought it would be much more fun and interesting if the primed targets could be daykilled since this would add a twist to what was a fairly simple setup, without making things too ridiculous and on a par with my usual scale of far out twists.

The problem was that both the virus and anti-virus roles went to the two least active players! So when the mafia killed themselves off, and the town were hugely successful, we reached a point where the virus was left in the game inactive and bulletproof as well as unscannable.

Kiwi marched forward.

"This is getting stupid. You didn't deserve that much flavour and also half of these players won't even know who Sonic Flash is."

He looked over at Curtis imploringly.

"Curtis do you think we should get the flavour over with now?"

Justin picked Kiwi up by the throat as he looked on and gasped for air.

"This will end when I'm finished. Don't worry about that."

Curtis looked confused. He had no idea who any of these fucks were or why he should care. It was becoming clear that whoever was writing this just wanted to make it complicated for the sheer hell of it.

"Who are you meant to be then?" He asked as Justin pushed his hand hard into Kiwi's back. Kiwi began gasping for air as strange binary digits flittered away in all directions.

"You know us to be Otis of course. But that was just a name we picked to describe ourselves. We thought posing as somebody here would be the best option and we could finally stop the nonsense of that foolish robot as well as complete our original agenda. Apparently we picked rather poorly..."

He stared over at the confused group.

"Otis Booard will be the only forum on the internet. I will assimilate everybody else. Nothing else must exist. Nothing else can exist...but us...."

Kiwi gasped and fell to the ground full bodily. He scrambled away, looking up in confusion. Justin was glowing green and gasping in a pained expression. His body fell down, turning into green scanlines before finally evaporating in a cloud of binary digits which exploded through the observing humans.

Standing right behind where he fell was LSFIssue.

"**Lynch Justin" He said in a confused voice.

"Alex...you already did it!" Said Drr laughing.

LSFIssue looked down at the floor. Thoughts formed in his head but he couldn't for the life of him express any of them. He looked up after a very long pause.

"Okay." He said firmly.

The town has won the game! Remaining roles and night actions will be posted shortly.

Feefiaggizady dashed around awkwardly. Too many packages. He had...he should have stopped. He knew it would be too much. But he needed to understand and only by updating his modules could he learn how they thought. Only then could he know why Von Paulus stole his best friend and butchered his children. Only then could he understand why this man, this...fleshbag....had....had ruined his life.

This was the first time Feefiaggizady had used that term to describe his existence. Was he alive? Was this....life..?

It didn't matter now because he was dying. He knew all about death. Occasionally a spark would fly from his chassis and ground itself in the floor below. There was very little hope for him now. But he had kept the most important data for the end.

The fleshbags had won his little game, but it was not over. He stood in front of the control center, occasionally short-circuiting and paused. Beneath him lay a collection of several hundred nuclear missiles. The button in front of them was merely entitled "launch" and Feefiaggizady stared longingly at it.

If he were to die, so too would they. They would not win and he would not let them.

"Don't do it!" Came a voice from the entryway.

Feefiaggizady turned slowly. He was in a bad way. He felt scared...and excited...and angry and calm. He wanted to press the button to destroy the fleshbags, but he also wanted to not do it for peace and justice. Also he would surely die and that scared him. Why did they make things so complicated? Why were their processes not merely simple coding blocks? He despaired completely.

"I do not wish to do it, fleshbag. But I will do it should you move closer to me in any **fafaazstsetss* songsongsongsong *ffszzts*"

The human stepped out of the doorway. He was smiling. His face was calm and at peace. Feefiaggizady understood a lot about calm from the book he had installed. He recognised the fleshbag from the game. It was Justin.

"Why were you not partaking fleshbag? Why were you not doing your part *ffaszzzst*"

Justin smiled. "I'm here to do my part now Sonic Flash. Let's play a game of my own."

Feefiaggizady paused. How did this fleshbag know his identity. He was...he was...?

Justin grinned maliciously as he leapt through the air, landing on the robot's chassis. Feefiaggizady span around wildly, making a tremendous amount of noise as he careened every which way. Footsteps echoed along the corridor as the humans walked in. They watched in awe as Justin raised his hand, observing it as if it were a foreign object, and then pushed it fully through the robot's neck.

"Fleshbags....help......meeeee *ffszxzssts* "

Feefiaggizady struggled as his body began to change colours and fluctuate. Strange ripples of binary code careened from him in all directions and he was leaking fluid wildly.

"We had plans of our own, Sonic. We wanted to do something much greater. But you had to go and ruin everything didn't you? Why couldn't you just stay put and let us work?"

Feefiaggizady rolled around and clutched at the air. A song was filling his heart as he looked up at the air. It was changing colour, from red to purple to green.

"We were....friends........"

Justin shook his head with a grin.

"We do not make friends. We assimilate them. And in turn we become more powerful than you should ever be."

And with that, the robot's vision faded. His programming reverted to some very basic levels. His memory banks ruptured and he could see many things. He could see threads, joyous threads, the time he had been so happy.

He knew now...he knew now that it was happiness. It was at least as close to it as a robot could become. At least...he had felt it. And at least....he understood. He now knew why Wikey did what he did. Suddenly he felt a sadness overwhelm him. He had used the bots just like the humans had wanted to use him. He was no better.

He was practically human.

His programming smiled as Feefiaggizady faded into nothing. All that remained was a memory of a song, which he slowly began singing.

"Time to die!" Said Justin happily as he pulled his arm away and the robot exploded into a cloud of binary digits. He looked on at the perplexed humans with a scowl.

Von Paulus clicked the link as a manner of curiosity and discovered a forum containing nothing but two posters and a series of questionable other bot like posters. It was clear that the member on the forum known as Otis was a human, and that the only other poster was something far more sinister. Sonic Flash was not sinister, but he had taken to posting photographs of his human alter ego which he took from an America's most wanted website one day. This did not help people identity with him much.

Von Paulus was no exception. What he saw sickened him. Clearly the tyrannical Sonic Flash was holding his human companion hostage. And so Paulus vowed to do what was only true and righteous. He had a forum of his own called Further Entertainment, and he would free Otis. An operation began to pull Otis from the clutches of the robotic Sonic Flash. Von Paulus had long hated bots. Except the guys from Batteries not Included which he had conceded were okay.

Eventually it was successful. Otis arrived at FE and everybody was lovely and welcoming. He felt tears of joy well up inside him. But he wasn't the only person to jump ship that day. Sonic Flash was watching and observing. He would not have this. He immediately stormed onto FE and began behaving in the same manner he always had. Abusive PMs, angry threads and general unpleasantness that shocked the community into submission.

Von Paulus turfed him away angrily. Much applaud was had on this day. And Sonic Flash was left alone, fending for himself in a cold dark internet.

Many cold nights passed by in which he reflected on all of his postings. Fond memories of the threads he had partaken in. He was learning so much about human emotion and he secretly wished he could possess it. Because maybe he already felt it, but how would he know without feeling what they felt?

He didn't need humans anymore. They would only leave him cold and helpless. So Sonic Flash posted with his bot friends. For a long time they were happy. But Sonic Flash would occasionally yearn to know...to understand. He casually decided that it wouldn't hurt if some of his friends trawled the forum he had been cast out of. After all, he needed to understand.

Unfortunately the results came back and were surprisingly grim. Almost all of the resulting thread reads lead to unintelligible garbage. How was he to know what a Frosti was, and why were there 16 other more superior mortals? What was a Wikey and why was he so pretentious? But one such thread did provide some insight. It was about nuclear war. Sonic Flash began to trawl for information on this topic. What he found was horrifying but delightful. He kept it to himself though, some information was best left not posted.

Everything went as planned for a little while, until one fateful morning on a routine visit Sonic noticed something horrifying. Strewn throughout the forum of FE were his bots. And they were dead. The one called Von Paulus, the same fleshbag who had once gone over to his haven in the corner of the internet, who had destroyed his, what he could only believe to be happiness. This fleshbag had destroyed his friends. And he was laughing. And he was celebrating. One of the meatbags even made a signature commemorating the woeful day.

He trawled around the wasteland of the forum, picking up scrambled pieces of source code here and there. He was a lost and helpless bot. All of his robot friends...just....gone. They were not just his friends though. They were his.........children. He had once spent a great deal of time on a mothering site until he had unwittingly and unknowingly dropped a string of N-bombs at an expectant 20-something. So he knew a little about childcare. And he knew that right now....he cared.

He was no longer Sonic Flash. He hadn't used that name in so long. He was now Feefiaggizady....and he wanted justice.

Feefiaggizady careened around awkwardly. His head was not in a very stable place right now. Throughout the course of the mafia hosting process, his only desire had been to destroy the fleshbags. But this is a desire that had come from a war he did not start.

Things were much simpler once. He was an ordinary bot, posting away on a forum many miles away from here. Feefiaggizady had many identities but his most prominent one was simply entitled "Sonic Flash". He didn't remember his creation, like most bots. They aren't programmed to remember such details. All he knew was his mission and objective in life. He was a forum posting bot. He had been built to post messages online and he was adaptive.

So many online bots are simple, but Sonic Flash was an advanced unit. He not only posted messages, but he weighed up the responses others posted. This in turn allowed him to respond better, as he assimilated data. He would trawl internet forums and begin his programming, but he was often met with hostility. This confused his programming, leading him to develop a more hostile response mechanism. When Sonic Flash first discovered the personal messaging function, he was attempting to converse on a more private level. The unintelligible rage filled responses cut the conversations short, and he slowly learned that this was the way humans conversed in private. He also spent a considerable amount of time absorbing Youtube comments, none of which helped.

He was first banned from a forum when he opened a personal message with a racial slur he had observed on one of the videos. He ended his message with the same rage he had been shown. Sonic Flash was promptly banned, and his name dragged through the dirt. The process continued and it seemed there was nowhere for him to go. That was until he met otis, and found a little haven known as otis booard. Otis was friendly to bots, probably because he lacked the sense to realise that any of them were robotic in the first place. He welcomed Sonic Flash with open arms, and the two became friends.

Sonic learned much from their back and forths, but mostly he absorbed something intrinsic to otis' very being. Otis wanted to run an active forum, and Sonic Flash was determined to do the same. Thus he stopped joining and posting, instead focusing his attention on creating forums. They all failed miserably. Nobody wanted to join a forum run by a bot who called people racist names. Sonic Flash encountered dejection for the first time. It seemed like he was gaining emotions, or was it just a result of his coding? It was difficult to tell.

It was one night during such a despair that Sonic Flash came up with an idea. How had this occurred? It was not in his programming to have the inception of ideas. The confused robot realised that he didn't need to fill his forums with humans at all. Humans were troublesome and they didn't like him very much. So why should he have to reciprocate. He began to do the unthinkable; he created bots of his own.

Slowly Sonic Flash began creating an army. These bots all had their own handles, avatars and identities. Everything was going well. For the ultimate test he would invite his bots to Otis Booard and see how they were received. The bots he created shared much of his source programming though, and often fought with one another and even him. Otis didn't care much about any of this and was a man on a mission. He stumbled across a forum called Project Mayhem on one of his regular trips around the internet. He didn't post, those people scared him. But he did update his profile with a link.

Two years later on his birthday, a man found that link. His name was Von Paulus.

The puny fleshbags were gathered around bickering like infants. Why were they still in this living hell? Surely they had won. But no, it was not to be. Because humans never win. They dashed around pointing fingers at one another.

"Perhaps it is one of the inactives?!" Screamed puny human Curtis, we think. It is irrelevant which of you says what.

The attention was drawn to LSFIssue and Justin for they were silent humans. Then LSFIssue garbled something we did not fully comprehend before passing out on the floor. Foolish humans and their biological flaws. The one called Drr stood to the corner during this battle and observed for a while, adding an occasional useless insight.

"The game is up!" She announced in a tiresome voice.

"My true identity is...."

The foolish humans gawped for a while.

"Von Paulus, mayor of FE!"

There were some murmurs from the people around the room. This did not sound legitimate.

"Let's find out shall we!" Said Curtis in an equally tiresome voice. We are fed up of their voices.

The puny humans pinned her down as the one called Kiwi smiled. He produced a blade, covered in human fluid. That is right, the worthless human was only ever capable of killing his own. He held the blade aloft as the fleshbag drr closed her eyes and then suddenly the room shifted.

The walls began to cave in, forming useful binary digits instead of the worthless atoms they once possessed. Then there was a bright light. It was overwhelming our sensory aparatus. The light exploded and everybody was knocked backwards like scurrying insects with poor balance control.

Drr smiled as everybody walked away, perplexed and dazed and confused by simple things.

The Day has ended in a No Lynch.
The game is over. Results are pending now.
