I think Esmail is more clever than that. I mean the same thing could have happened last year, but it was played off in a different way. We might get clarification on that ^ way before the season ends, and it might just be one huge brilliant misdirection! Or maybe it's just what it appears to be but meant to look like a metaphor for that.

They only released part one of the premiere last night. It was the first 40 minutes of the 2-hour (probably 80ish minutes) premiere. An "Intermission" caption came up at the end of the episode.

USA live-streamed the episode on Twitter/Facebook/etc. last night as a surprise early release. I managed to catch it through other *ahem* means and just finished it.

I'm very glad the show is back! Part One of the premiere was way darker than I felt season one was, and I'm excited to see where Esmail takes the Eliot character in what's shaping up to be a bleak year of television.

This was renewed for a second season of 13 episodes last week.

I watched the pilot this morning and it was actually pretty great! Watching the second episode right now.

I enjoyed season 2 until the finale... Kinda irked that the writers threw in some big cliffhangers in the last few minutes with no build-up and NO RENEWAL as of yet. It's an insult to the viewers and super cocky. So now if the show gets canceled for any reason, we don't have resolution.

So I am currently a little over halfway through season five and figured this would be a good place to record my thoughts and hear from other fans of this show! Along with Babylon 5 and Twin Peaks, I see Buffy as kind of a pre-Lost 90s show that served as a gateway for the kinds of show we have today. With its strong mythos, occasional flashbacks and zany sense of humor, it's hard to turn away.

I just finished watching coveted episode "The Body" and it's surely up there among the best and has cemented season 5 as my favorite season of Buffy.

So any fans on this board? What are your thoughts on this show and what should I expect for seasons 6 and 7? I'm planning on watching Angel once I'm done with the whole show.

I watched Buffy 5x15 and 5x16.

That's right, that latter episode is "The Body"! I can't say much that hasn't been said before, but I was engrossed the entire time, unsettled by some of the great artistic choices made and it cemented season 5 as my favorite Buffy season so far.

I was a big fan of the show during the first three seasons. Anything after that I've learned to just treat as entertaining television, and I am prepared to just suspend my disbelief for the rest of the show because I just know it's not going to be the same show anymore. It's not as horrible as it could be, but it is very on-the-nose, conventional and it's evident that they're blowing a lot more money on a glossy image than on worldbuilding and adding book characters to the show.

I'll watch it until it ends, and hopefully we will get to read the last two books in this lifetime!

Book readers were speculating giddily for ten weeks what the "fat northmen" casting call would yield!
