If ever there was a time for Cormac to take charge of his own destiny rather than wait for others to dictate it for him, now was the time. After a few initial beginner bumps in the road, Cormac was finally able to find his stride and put his foot firmly in place for a successful run on the initial Rictusempra tribe. He found it quite strange and a bit alarming to find the person who confided in him the most also happened to be an Animagas beetle in her spare time. Yet, Rita Skeeter had stepped up, professed her liking of charming Cormac, and the two began working together in order to solve the Ravenclaw Idol clue and the Hufflepuff Common Room number code.
All things considered, Cormac felt his first few days in the competition had gone fairly well. He found himself concerned that he might be going overboard with how vocal he seemed to be getting in the group chat and decided to take his intuition to heart and turn it down a few notches. Cormac knew he would need allies moving forward and Rita was not going to cut it alone. With certainty, he felt he would approach Draco, Poppy, and Ron at the very least as they seemed to want to talk with him every day and would always seem to be the first ones to initiate a conversation. Something Cormac was keen on changing up so as not to appear like he was disinterested, which was the furthest from the truth as could be.
The first challenge was predictably difficult when two of the tribes' number did not appear interested in competing at all, or rather, Dumbledore seemed not to be bothered, while Hagrid simply got lost on his way in typical Hagrid fashion. Draco and Fred, in the meantime, wasted no time in mucking up the challenge with silly mistakes that set the tribe back about thirty minutes and caused Cormac great strife in their ability to perform in future challenges. At the very least, when Cormac messed up the first reward challenge he was only letting himself down and not an entire tribe. So it was, with tribal council looming, and the headmaster nowhere in sight, the tribe came together and made quick work of deciding Dumbledore had to go, and so, in fact, did the Heir of Slytherin, whoever that may have been.
It came as quite a shock to Cormac learning the power to become the Heir was already unleashed considering we had only just escaped Private Drive and Hogwarts was still at least two challenges in sight. However, Cormac quickly recovered from his shock and laughed off the fact that Dumbledore, who already was not around, could no longer self-vote either because the Heir had used their power to prevent him doing anything further to slow down the tribe, which made Cormac believe the Heir came from Rictusempra. Knowing that the power shifted from player to player each round, Cormac wasted no time in figuring out how to become the Heir himself. An avid memory wall follower, Cormac made to check a few of the profiles to see if they had been updated since they were all directing everyone to Amos Diggory. To Cormac's complete lack of surprise, it turned out Dumbledore's no longer went to his profile, but to a small scroll giving directions to post a donkey (fitting, since Dumbledore made himself into an ass). Cormac posted and received the happy power. Now he was the Heir of Slytherin and could prevent one person from voting in the upcoming tribal council. He felt he had two choices moving forward: Hagrid from Rictusempra for his abysmal activity level or the fish, Mirabella, from Serpensortia, whom everyone knew had possession of the Gryffindor Immunity Idol, and flushing it should be priority number one by making her nervous of her placement in the tribe. His choice would depend solely on who lost the immunity challenge, and Cormac felt this power at least he would keep to himself.
Once again, Cormac quickly made a list of his remaining tribemates and how well he had communicated with them thus far based on O.W.L. grades: (O)utstanding, (E)xceeds Expections, (A)cceptable, (P)oor, (D)readful, (T)roll.
2. Draco Malfoy - A
3. Fred Weasley - P
4. Rubeus Hagrid - P
5. Gilderoy Lockhart - P
6. Poppy Pomfrey - A
7. Rita Skeeter - O
8. Ronald Weasley - A
Still not up to the level he would have liked, but he was far from being on the bottom with Rita, Draco, and Poppy as regular correspondences. Cormac still had much to do but felt his challenge performance on the drop down puzzle was sufficient to keep himself safe as it was well below ten minutes, and so his earlier uneasiness that he had not chosen to stand by the car was diminished and Cormac set to off to see who might have entered the Ravenclaw Idol profile before himself, and to see if they had procured what he had been attempting unsuccessfully to crack. At least he was only five numbers away from finding the Hufflepuff Common room, and one ingredient closer to the Slytherin one. Things were progressing slowly but they were progressing. That was all that mattered. | |
