Thanks for the question Tyler. I hope to provide insight into my strategic plays throughout the game.
Dave - This vote, while hard on a personal level, was strategically not difficult. Dave hadn't socialized as much as the rest of us.
Christine - This vote was a lot crazier than many people realized. The vote was originally intended to be on John and we supposedly had Chelsea, Christine on board along with Ciera, Misty and I. But Christine sold us out to John. John and Hali both came to Misty and I and told us everything Christine had said. Christine tried playing both sides but our bonds were stronger with Hali, John and Chelsea and so the vote got flipped on Christine literally during the last hour or half an hour or so. I do believe that the connections that I made with John and Hali were stronger than the ones Christine had made since John believed us over her even though she was ultimately trying to save John whereas we had all but voted John out.
Tyler - This was very much a group decision. You had just not connected well enough with many people. Even Chelsea never voiced to me that she would like to save you. I personally did not want to make a move so early. A strategic misstep on my part but I felt comfortable at the time.
Misty - Misty and I both made strategic mistakes in this round. We overplayed big time and put faith in the people who turned on us. I think the things that made Misty a target more than me was she was more of a social and, at the time, challenge threat. I also was much closer to Chelsea than Misty was and with Chelsea being a key vote, I was spared whereas Misty was taken out.
Matt B - This vote was purely self preservation for the three Chonos remnants. We tried to get Brett and Chelsea back on board with us but it was too soon. Personally I ensured I voiced my unwillingness to work with the Jaruuds repeatedly to both Brett and Chelsea and dialed back on most of my conversations with the Jaruuds. Matt B ended up rubbing Chelsea and Brett the wrong way and went home.
Fabio - Good luck in huge part with Ciera finding the idol. But strategically our best bet was to take out what I thought was the glue that kept the majority alliance together and intact. Ciera and I were very much on the same page about this and Fabio ended up being idoled out in quite a dramatic tribal council.
Matty - Once again, huge stroke of luck. Had it not been for the rule, this outcome would have been much different. But personally, I was not willing to budge and had my Matty vote locked in. He was the last variable that I could not account for moving forward since I had little to no interactions with him.
Hali - Once I lost immunity, I felt the target had to be Hali. I, along with Ciera, played both sides this vote. Trying to make Hali and John believe we were voting Chelsea but worried about Chelsea finding an idol at exile while assuring Chelsea and Brett that we would vote Hali. In the end both sides did believe us and the biggest threat in the game was taken out.
Ciera - Ciera and I once again tried to play both sides but this time it didn't work. Everyone was rightfully afraid of letting both Ciera and I make F4. A strategic failure again on my part but there was little to nothing I could do at this point.
John K - There really was no other possibility. It was either John or I. And the FIC would decide. Brett and Chelsea both individually had told me they would tie the vote for me had I lost but after everything that had happened I wanted to make sure my fate was in my own hands.
Season recap:
"Previously, on 39 days in Mongolia ...
18 castaways were marooned in the rich region of Mongolia to battle it out for 39 grueling days. They would be divided into 3 tribes of 6 and square off to decide tribal supremacy before being forced to merge together and go to war against former friend and foe alike to try and outwit, outplay and outlast one another in order for one individual to claim the title of Sole Survivor.
The game began dramatically with Kelley Wentworth being brutally blindsided by AIM after 2 attempts on Kelley's part to get on AIM's good side. She was replaced by Francesca who wasted no time in trying to assimilate to make up for a lost day's time. She surprisingly was one of the 3 winners of the first challenge along with Chelsea and Hali and all three got a chance to pick their tribes.
Chelsea picked Tyler, Brett, Christine, Matty and Kathy for Oronor.
Hali picked Fabio, jenn, John K, Laura and Woo for Jaruud.
Francesca picked Matt B, Misty, Chase, Ciera and Dave for Chonos.
The tribal warfare was in full force with Chonos losing the first challenge and having to say farewell to Dave. The next day saw Matty and Jenn being swapped for being ranked lowest on their respective tribes. But Matty was able to overcome this setback when he outlasted both Laura and Woo when his new tribe lost while Jenn never recovered and was unceremoniously taken out in her new tribe.
The swap shook up the game tremendously as former tribe rulers Chase and Christine were eliminated in surprising back to back rounds whereas Kathy was removed for being an absentee just before the merge.
The merge kicked off with a Jaruud 4 and a Chonos 4 seemingly poised for battle with an Oronor 3 stuck in the middle. But this war was postponed when neither side wanted to go after the other and the pleas of Tyler fell on deaf ears resulting in him being taken out unanimously.
The times of peace wouldn't last however as the next round signaled the start of a bloodbath with both sides vying for the loyalty of the Oronor duo of Brett/Chelsea still stuck in the middle. Ultimately Jaruud won out and Misty was the first casualty of this war.
The pleas of the Chonos remnants didn't make Brett and Chelsea budge and Matt B was taken out due to unintentionally rubbing them the wrong way.
Final 8 was the stage of another shift in power when promises were made and broken between the Oronor duo and the last 2 Chonos remnants - Ciera and Francesca. Luckily for the Chonos ladies, a luckily timed idol find allowed them to not only survive the round together but to take out the heart of the majority alliance - Fabio. A ray of hope emerged for the Chonos girls and the fight was not yet over.
An unexpected and unforeseen turn of events once again allowed the Chonos girls to find a spot in between the now-at-odds sides of the Jaruud 3 and the Oronor 2. Due to immense good fortune, the outcome was the most favorable one and Matty was eliminated in a turmoil filled tribal council.
Final 6 finally saw Francesca and Ciera both being vulnerable without any immunity or potential idols. But the looming threat of Hali curb stomping the opposition to a victory was too big to ignore for the Oronor duo who decided to side with Francesca and Ciera in order to eliminate the biggest hero of the game.
With Hali out of the game Francesca once again won herself immunity but this time the Chonos duo failed to make the same magic happen as before and Ciera was finally taken out of the game after a hard fought battle.
Final 4 boiled down to head on clash between John K, the last remaining Jaruud and Francesca the last remaining Chonos to claim a spot in the FTC. Both fought hard, persevered long and gave it everything they had. Francesca ultimately won out and sealed her place at FTC whereas John was unable to convince the Oronor duo to turn on each other resulting in his heart crushing elimination as the final juror."
I hope that wasn't TOO corny :P My thoughts on this season are that it was a spectacular one and will be fondly remembered by me and I am sure by many of y'all who have played in it for a long long time
All star picks:
1. Hali. Starting off with the fairly obvious one.
2. Franny. Regardless of the outcome, I believe my story is a powerful one. I am not the heroic underdog that everyone roots for but I was a force in this game that could neither be ignored nor was anyone able to stop me.
3. Fabio. Although not personally with me, Fabio played an excellent game and was really only taken out primarily because Ciera and I got lucky at just the right time. If Fabio survives just one more round, things could have ended up very differently.
4. John K. John K's game is hugely underrated imo. He was extremely social with people even outside his alliance, he was always shielded by threats who would definitely be taken out before him and he was just one round away from being a huge favorite to win the game.
Alternates:
1. Misty. Her elimination signaled the big shift in the direction of the game and set the tone for many future rounds. She was also a big presence pre-merge and who can forget that dodge ball challenge where Hali and Misty faced off like amazonian warriors.
2. Ciera. Her idol play was very memorable and her presence was always a fun and cheerful one. She may not have been a strategic force but she was an entertaining player through and through.
I would like to offer an explanation about why I didn't include Brett or Chelsea on this. Chelsea not being included is mainly because I felt she lacked the interest and investment that everyone on this list had for this game.
Brett I didn't include because All Star picks are individuals who had an impact on the game or were memorable while standing by themselves. Brett played an impressive second-in-command game. His #1 kept changing but the fact remains he always had a #1 to whom he was a #2. An impressive strategy if he can unseat that #1 himself at some point which he either never had to or never did end up doing.
Thanks again for the question Tyler. Let me know if you need more.
