I think winning captain is kind of silly. Starting in season 5, big threats have been going really early via blindside, and nothing puts a big target on your back like winning captain.
Though, its hard to throw a challenge where there is an obvious advantage to winning + naming your tribe and such. | | |

That being said, it is also important to make a good impression and go a little bit. Especially if the AIM portion has been iffy thus far.

Regardless, I was talking in terms of Captain's Curse/placement. Matt was the first original captain to make it to the merge I think. But after that, it was like a thing to watch for and see how far they could make it. | |
