Maybe it isn't meant to detonate at all. Maybe its only purpose is to deliver the person to the target, and the fact that it's a missile was just a ruse

As the group sat around the strange missile device uncertainly, their eyes were drawn to a monitor at the side of the room. It was glowing red. They gathered around to see what was up. A series of letters were appearing on the screen one after the other.

They paused to read the entire message as it appeared. Once it was there, it lingered for a while before the screen blacked out entirely.

The message read:
