indeed, regardless though, the RI works for this season for several reasons. One being the trade places twists, another being the drama from everyone watching the duel and seeing their loved one actually be eliminated on the spot. This season, it actually works, they found a way to incorporate in a meaningful way. This is an entire season about family, love, emotion and drama, it just works here and I think it was a good move for this season. RI and South Pacific, it was a distraction that lead to some anti-climatic excitement with Matt Elrod and Ozzy but that was about it. Honestly, had those seasons not had it, its hard to say they would have been better, we'll never know.
But I totally agree, either ditch RI altogether, or make the episodes 1.5-2 hours every time.

Loved ones are so awesome! Vytas, Ciera, Caleb, John, Hayden, Marissa, Rachel all seem like awesome personalities.
I strongly dislike BRAD, Cotlon, Gervase, Rupert. Brad getting 11 freaking confessionals is too much for me.
I didn't want to see Marissa go out but I hope her and Candice kick Rupert's ass on redemption island.

Brad has a lot of personality, but... he's obviously an attention whore, and Probst seems to be gay for him already.
I don't dislike Rupert at all, I just am very against people playing four times unless it's like HvV where a bunch of them do at the same time. It isn't fair.
I want C***ice to lose at RI so badly. I strongly dislike her. As well as Colton. I don't like many of the returnees anyway. None of the loved ones strike me as awful yet, but Brad is already in "will likely be annoying" territory, especially given how much of an edit hog he was. It has only been one episode - it's too early to judge how the season will unfold.
My line of thinking with Brad is that he gets blindsided hardcore early on, so they wanna give him his "deserved" airtime first. Of course, it's only getting fans to be annoyed with him already, especially since the guy would fail fifth grade math and was the one behind the Marissa boot... to satisfy his own ego. Remember: He's an ex-NFL player. To play in a pro sport like that, having an ego is a prerequisite.

...what the hell are you two talking about? That episode was terrible, and I am strongly considering ceasing watching it.
Reasons?
1) Colton hogging the airtime again. Can someone just shoot him in the face already? PLEASE? As much as he is in trouble... I just don't wanna deal with a demon.
2) The entire strategy this season is "vote out someone to cripple their loved one" - exactly like I thought would happen. That makes for a stupid, convoluted season where nobody is targeted because of their own gameplay, but rather those of others.
3) Rupert leaving because of his own stupidity - in both switching with his wife, who likely won't last, and boneheadedly rushing into this challenge was not enjoyable. Rupert is a character, and although I don't like anyone playing for a fourth time by themselves, it was an unsatisfying exit with an unsatisfying twist.
I am probably not going to last this entire season. The twists are ridiculous and hard to follow and enjoy. And in all honesty, it isn't even Survivor anymore...

It's unique and unlike any other season they have had. Lighten up!
Rupert leaving first is absolutely hilarious
Colton is back! And will probably be the first one out if his tribe fur being a relentless pathological lying trouble maker. Time to watch him fail miserably.
Vytas was great this episode, what a little schemer! This season loved ones are having more if an impact on voting, who cares we knew that coming in' Rachel was boring as hell anyway.
Should John have shared the idol clue? My vote is yes, by not doing so, and looking to save Rachel, he alienated himself from the men's alliance. It's not worth it even if he finds the idol.
It's going to be a very dramatic and amusing season, excited to see how it will ultimately unfold.

Sure. But when it becomes about voting out whomever still has a loved one left, don't say I didn't warn ya.

I have to say, I'm kind of disappointed as well. I don't really like that people are getting voted out purely because of their loved one on the other tribe, rather than their own gameplay or lack thereof. I agree with Amanda, It's not even Survivor anymore. I also hate that Tyson might switch out with Rachel next week. I don't want to see all the good players swap out with their not-so-good loved ones. Also, Colton had better quit. Seriously. He doesn't deserve to be there. I know he won't do it, but I wish he would. He's a selfish little prick who cries about everything and then immediately flips a switch and becomes a venomous little monster. Probably one of the worst people I've had the displeasure of seeing on tv. I hope that if he gets voted out, Caleb doesn't swap places with him at redemption. I actually like Caleb. And what he sees in Colton I'll never know. All that being said, most of the new players are still great. Maybe it'll show Probst that new people actually can be good and we don't need half a cast of returning players every season.

It's going to be a completely different game and a lot more personal. I agree that I prefer REAL survivor, as do most fans , but seeing a season like this once after 26 standard ones doesn't bother me.
I heard a rumor about next season:
|
All new players, no redemption island, back to standard formula for all you traditionalists! |

I, for one, am loving this season. The season is extremely twist heavy but it has delivered constantly. Yes, perhaps seeing people being voted out because of their loved ones is not the most exciting thing, but in all honesty it makes for interesting dynamics.
For example the fact that John is trying to think of Candice's survival and struggling with his own game is SUCH a great storyline. This would have never happened in a regular season, and it's this whole layer to the game which makes it so interesting to me. This is something new that we have never seen before, and so far it's working wonders, in my opinion.
Personally, I wasn't a huge fan of the returners but I am growing to like them. I also love how the dynamics can change so fast. With people swapping in Redemption people who were never meant to be together can end together, and that makes it always-changing which is exciting.
Rupert going first was glorious. He gave himself too much credit.
