"So I would just like to make a few quick points. Everyone talks about how Southern Slavery was such a terrible thing but honestly there were quite a few positive aspects and I believe the overall experience results in a net positive when you weigh the pros and cons. First of all, slavery has existed throughout mankind, the Romans had slaves, the Greeks had slaves, and the English only abolished slavery a few years before the civil war was even fought. In the bible, Abraham had slaves and one of the 10 commandments makes note that "thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's slave" So as a whole up until very recently, slavery was part of the natural order of the world.
