Friends hello

After getting into Dungeons and Dragons via a couple of podcasts and our MOTW game here, I floated the idea of playing to a couple of my friends. Surprisingly each one told me they've secretly always wanted to look into it so we got a crew together real fast with me as the DM

Since we play in person I decided a few months ago to try my hand at crafting. If you don't know, some people play using just their imagination and no visuals, some print out maps to use as the 'game board', some use dry erase boards, and some craft terrain to use as visual aids. That one appealed to me most so I started gathering supplies for it and its been super fun. I've been a mad man taking cardboard and styrofoam and other junk from work and trying to turn it into stuff. By far my favorite part has been using very specific types of junk (wine corks, chopsticks, a brand new shoe that I bought that got ripped) and finding something to turn it into. Stuff that would otherwise just be thrown away

I'm gonna use this thread to post the stuff that I make. I'm no expert and have very limited supplies but I'm having a lot of fun with it. I'll start by posting most of the stuff that I made in the order that I made them, so don't judge these early ones for being mostly tests. You'll see my collection of shit start to grow as I play catch-up. Once I'm caught up and posted everything I have so far I think I'll start asking you guys for suggestions and I'll see if I can challenge myself to make some of it

First thing I made, just some easy stone ruins and columns. The castle top like piece in the back is a completely untouched piece of styrofoam that just happened to be shaped perfectly. Everything here is just packaging styrofoam. These were mostly paint tests to see if I can get something stone like out of the only two colors I had at the time, black and white. I would redo all of these in a heartbeat today now that I've learned more

Tested different materials. The wood is cardboard, the frame is tinfoil flattened with a hammer which worked far better than expected, and the base is textured with tiny rocks

And this was my first real batch of stuff after a few days. I used the lid of a styrofoam cooler for a perfect base and carved a grid into it since we use grids for gameplay. The bedrolls are made out of nothing but toilet paper actually, just mixed with water and Elmers glue. This was before toilet paper became a precious commodity. The couple of ladders and table were more tests out of cardboard, same with the barrel. The pile of rocks was very much not finished yet

Also the castle top gets much better later, I cover it up with a wooden texture at some point

Last one for now, my crew of players and some foliage. The character bases are just wine corks. The characters themselves I worked on with each of them in a character maker, I colored them in photoshop, printed them out and put a nice shiny piece of tape over them so they'd look better. The texture on the bases and on the tree bases are pencil shavings that I mixed up with green paint

You could use that stuff for Warhammer if you branch out to other gaming games

I know very little about it but the miniatures I see from it seem really cool

This one won't mean much to anyone unless they've played before. It's a homemade initiative tracker. Basically it just tracks the combat order during any given fight. This was the first thing I made that I was fairly proud of

Bonus health potion that I handed to them when they looted a corpse and found it. They weren't expecting any sorta physical props so it was a cool surprise

Weapons rack! Just some Popsicle sticks and toothpicks painted up. The foreground is a torch made out of a pen that exploded on me at work and left a dark black stain on my crotch

Last one for now, I wanted to make a monster so I made a gelatinous cube, its a popular DND slime monster that traps people inside of it. I kept the bottom open so I could put a character in there. Some quick an dirty cave stalagmite type structures surrounding it. The cube is just plastic packaging material coated in hot glue

This one was kinda cool because it blew up on Reddit a little bit, like 2.2k likes. I had never really used Reddit before so that was a grand start

Challenge for you: craft one of your Felestrations S3 phrases instead of drawing it
