looks p good, I'm sure it's way more impressive with the headset on. Not sure if this gonna make me take the leap to get VR, but it's definitely the most tempted I've been yet. If this was HL3 I would've been in for sure
hey I finally played this and it was uh...one of the best games I've ever played! 100% worth the price of getting a VR headset for this alone (cuz let's face it, there still aren't that many GREAT games for VR yet). I attached some noise-cancelling headphones for most of my playthrough too and BOY do you get immersed
The VR experience of this game is something I'm sure will be topped in time, but I think this will be seen as a Super Mario 64 type game that REVOLUTIONIZED a certain genre. The inventiveness in each and every level was insane, they did so many fun (and terrifying) things with the concept
Like even the simple act of reloading your gun takes on a whole new feeling in this. You'll have a headcrab/zombie bearing down on you and if you run out of bullets you'll have to eject your mag, reach into your backpack and grab a new one, then load it before you can shoot again. Which is all really simple on its own but it's hard not to panic and fumble around when you're a second away from being mauled
some other highlights
minor
+
- when the elevator doors open and you're met with the Combine soldiers I literally put my hands up before they even told me to in-game. That's how immersive it is
- this one level where you get off an elevator and see a couple headcrabs scurry into the ceiling but then they're just...gone and you kinda forget about them. You retrieve the item you were looking for and head back only to find like five headcrabs drop from the ceiling in front of you. It took me a sec to process before I BOOKED it to the elevator and slammed the down button, and the doors shut just before they could lunge at me
there's so many others but off the top of my head those are the ones that really made me go "so THIS is what VR's potential is"
Beyond the VR aspect tho it was just a great Half-Life game as a fan of the series. Tied in with the main series wonderfully by the end, and it was so cool (and again, terrifying) to see a bunch of the series staples in an ultra immersive way like this
I couldn't believe they effectively gave us a Half-Life 3 tease (...again), and I mean that in a good way. I was PUMPEDDD at that after-credits scene (even though who knows when/if that continuation will actually happen). And what a tease letting us hold the crowbar for just a second, I was waiting the whole game for them to include that lol
