Robert Baratheon is the ruler of the Seven Kingdoms. He took the throne by conquest in the war known as Robert's Rebellion. He is a childhood friend of Eddard Stark and considers him his true brother. He names Ned as Hand of the King when the previous Hand dies in mysterious circumstances.

Mance Rayder was once a noted ranger of the Night's Watch. He deserted his post and fled north of the Wall to join the wildlings. He rose to become the King-Beyond-the-Wall, a title bestowed on a wildling leader who manages to unify all of the tribes under his command. It appears he has held the position of King-Beyond-The-Wall for more than a decade, as Ser Alliser Thorne mentions he was King-Beyond-the-Wall during the previous winter.

I really liked Robert's character and I like the actor in that role a lot. Mance seems cool but he's only had a few lines really. Robert for sure

Voted Mance. Robert in the show was an infuriating dick. I mean...that was the point. But I found him hard to stomach at times. Mance Rayder is a dick too but at least he's a dick with some kind of an agenda. Robert was an interesting character for sure but the cult of personality surrounding Mance is great.

Robert and Ned's scenes and Robert/Cersei scenes were some of my favorites of the first season

Robert but mainly because of his pre-GOT stories... Seemed like such a boss with his warhammer.

lol Robert didn't come off as a dick to me. He was one of the few people who didn't completely dick Ned over in King's Landing so he's alright in my book!

I really do like Mance, though. Just... it's probably my own fault, but the actor looks so different from how I perceived him in the book that its jarring. Maybe he was described this way and I just don't remember, but I envisioned someone a bit more young and suave. I guess this version makes more sense to have the wildlings rallied behind him.

Mance Rayder is a pretty cool name though

Apparently Dominic West was approached about the role of Mance but he turned it down because Iceland sucks and he refused to go there. That would've been incredible beyond words.
