The year is 1998, another prime year for gaming! Choose all the games you played. There are a lot of games here which were later released for another consoles which you can choose, as well as games that had an arcade machine counterpart! Which did you enjoy? Hate? Still need to play any of these classic gems?
Honorable mentions:
Fallout 2
Glover
Body Harvest
Gex: Enter the Gecko
Crash Bandicoot: Warped
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron
Tomb Raider III
Half-Life
Sonic R
Bust a Groove
Vigiliante 8
Suikoden II |

A good chunk of these!
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - Never owned it, sadly. My best friend had it and I borrowed it constantly. I finally downloaded a ROM for it and played the absolute hell of it. It's a masterpiece and still holds up today as a fantastic game.
Banjo-Kazooie - Fun. Another game I never owned but borrowed a lot. Never did beat it but it was great.
Spyro the Dragon - Back when demo discs were a thing, I got a Spyro demo with my PS1. So I never owned the ACTUAL game but I did play the demo of it a lot as I did enjoy it. My friend got her daughter a PS1 and Spyro with it so I played it quite a bit in recent times.
F-Zero X - One of my favorites on the N64. Love the huge roster. Great music and it's a simple pick-up game.
Mario Party - Played it with friends, never owned it and I think that was the only time I played it.
Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow - Got all THREE for Christmas one year! Me and my group of friends were very, very, very into Pokemon around this time so it was an amazing time. Lots of nostalgia with these games. It was the #1 game in my elementary school, no contest.
Yoshi's Story - Once again, never owned it but borrowed it. If I remember right, I beat it the same day I borrowed it. I don't remember much about it other than it being super easy.
Oddworld: Abe's Exodus - For some reason, the commercial for this has always been stuck in my mind and I have no idea why. I never owned it. I had a ROM of it for a PS1 emulator and I honestly don't remember a thing about it nor did I play it very long.
Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes - Played the arcade! A few different times, but namely at Pondarosa Pines in PA.
Honorables:
Gex: Enter the Gecko - Once again, played the demo. I had a demo disk with like 12 games on it, this was one of them (on an unrelated note, this is also how I found Legend of Dragoon which was one of my favorite PS1 games). I had the first game and wasn't crazy about it so never went out of my way to get the sequel.
Glover - Had a ROM of it. It was pretty fun iirc.
Vigilante 8 - This is the only game I ever had on both N64 and Playstation and both were gifts. Go figure. It was ok. Typical Twisted Metal clone that was popular at the time. |

Metal Gear Solid > Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time > Pokemon Red/Blue > Resident Evil 2 > Banjo Kazooie > Grim Fandango
Pokemon Red and Blue had the biggest impact on me personally. I also played Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and Sonic Adventure, but didn't vote fo rthem because neither of them came out in 1998 (well, Sonic Adventure did if you lived in Japan).
If we're going by North American release dates, the best is Final Fantasy Tactics.

Played:
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - Fav game of all time, I've played it through countless times.
Banja-Kazooie - Top 5 game of all time, also played it through a bunch
StarCraft - Good shit, sometimes played it in class with Ari and co lol, originally played it at my cousins
F-Zero X - Played it with a friend
Mario Party - Played it at another friend's, eventually I got banned from his place lol
Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow - Got Yellow then bought Red later, hundreds of hours went into them
Oddworld: Abe's Exodus - Played it a bit, never got that far
Glover - Not the best game, better than Superman 64 at least
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron - I love the Rogue Squadron series, played all of them I think
Half-Life - Played it a bit when I was younger at my cousins, played the Source remake through later
Maybe:
Resident Evil 2 - I played either this one or the first one for an hour or something
Crash Bandicoot: Warped - Played at least one of the 3 with a friend(s)
Own but haven't played:
Grim Fandango - My friend's favorite, I think he gave it to me. Still haven't gotten to it lol, one of these days I swear!
Fallout 2 - //TODO
Merc Mentions:
Space Station Silicon Valley - One of N64's hidden gems, made by Rockstar
1080° Snowboarding - Yeah! Cool!
Baldur's Gate - Haven't played it but felt it should get a mention
Final Fantasy Tactics - Same as above

i looked up an even longer list of 1998 games and still nothing i played besides what I listed. I guess it makes sense since i never had a pre-PS2 console (besides an atari) and PC gaming was pretty dead that year and nothing 8 year old me would have liked
but it still feels WEIRD
I feel like i spent a lot of time gaming in 1998, but it must have all been edutainment or Sim Etc | d ( i n o s r o a ) r

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - played this waaay after the fact (on the Wii) so I definitely don't have the same nostalgia attached to it as most, but good game. Majora's Mask is better tho
Grim Fandango - played for like half an hour and then got stuck at some point and never picked it up again (: NOT A BIG POINT 'N CLICK FAN!
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron - definitely played this for a time but don't remember much of it

I was a SR in high school and freshman in college. Pretty much only played Madden, NCAA football, and a baseball game back then. Was more into weed and lsd at this time. |
