wouldn't be able to make it tonight so just got done watching this
|
gave it a 6, though I COULD maybe justify giving it a 7?
Really liked the first half of the movie when it focused on Alfredo/Salvatore's friendship and the town in general. I feel like it kinda started to lose its magic once the time skip happened tho, which I guess was partially the POINT since it shifted from a "wonderment of movies" to more of a regular coming of age story, but I just didn't dig it as much. Salvatore got less compelling the older he got it seems :( Alfredo was the best tho |

My chief complaint as well. We were teased with it, then the lead was buried underneath the Toto/Alfredo dynamic. It was whimsical, even wistful at times though. An indistinct charm.

Genuine review, bad movie for Rabbit but a good movie in general. Was a bit cheesy and cliched. Also really lost its footing in the second half and adult Toto was kind of a creep (: really don't think that romance sub-plot added anything and actually detracted a little.
Overall though I enjoyed it. Nothing too memorable.

Merc proposing the "bell ring = do a shot" drinking game three seconds before the church bell rang on screen for five straight minutes.

4 or 5 is my first instinct though maybe it'll grow on me now that its over with time to ABSORB it. Not really my thing though its not bad.
I think I just didn't care enough about Toto to get the emotional investment going |

Went with a 5 unfortunately. These older classics are just so hit or miss with how they age. This was a mixed bag
I was pretty excited about a movie about sorta the MAGIC OF MOVIES but that spark didn't really land for me all that much
Alfredo was delightful. Teen Toto was a sociopath. The man who owned the square stole the movie. But Peppino was the true mvp for the Rabbit crew. RIP
The ending was fairly touching with the funeral, the cinema blowing up, and grown Toto watching the reel at the end. There weren't a ton of standout scenes for me otherwise tho
The movie ended with the big FINE on screen which was a terrific summary

Toto wasn't a likable character in the slightest. Alfredo was which is why it was weird they spent so long without him around. I get it was more coming of age but I didn't really care for that portion.

And yeah I feel like Rabbit made it more bearable but less impactful overall
Glad we did it tho. We had six of us which is the most so far for a Rabbit session. I'm down to do this every so often whether its for FE Watches (if we continue) or just for fun. If we pick a movie with Rabbit in mind then it'll be an even better time. But shit like Peppino here and Elmer in Stripes are always amusing

also this. I was actually thinking during a couple of his moments I wish I could've seen them on Rabbit

I also gave it a 5. It just honestly wasn't a huge hit for me.
I enjoyed young Toto the most, I think. But other than that, I didn't have too much emotional connection with him at any other age.
