Mediocre in the worst ways. The common complaint that all emotion and expression were lost is super valid, their faces were just blank slates the whole time. When a classic music number would start I’d be excited but even THOSE were pretty void of emotion, it was weird. I missed the booming score of the original. Donald Glover and Beyonce’s voices didn’t harmonize very well
Visually it was photorealistic so....neat!
Timon and Pumbaa were the best part easily. Great casting there
I thought the movie was really good, though I agree with Curtis that Beyonce/Gambino didnt harmonize well. (I watched an interview that said they never even were in the same room as eachother which probably is why)
Timon's casting was the best. Scar was wayyyy more frightening in this one than the other, and I liked the change in the hyena pack structure to introduce a strong female lead there.
Overall, I think I like this one better than the original.
Sidenote: I was also totally baked out of my mind which may have affected my judgment.
