Is .gif pronounced Gif with a hard g or Jif with a soft g?

GIF= Graphics Interchange Format
If it gets pronounced giraffics, then jif is correct. Otherwise.... | | How can you have any pudding if you won't eat your meat? |

It's JIF. There is no debate here. The creator of the GIF intended it to be pronounced with a soft g sound (although I always say it with a hard g sound). I just learned this recently. | | |

That's because he can't pronounce "graphics" correctly.
Plus I always believed he said that specifically to troll people into getting angry over it. It's something I would do in his shoes.

I just looked it up. The creator meant it to be pronounced JIF, some kind of wordplay of Jif commercials.
The graphics argument also seems to have a flaw in it.
Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) would be pronounced JFEG if GIF has to be pronounced with a hard G because of the Graphics word.
That being said, it just feels wrong saying JIF instead of GIF. | | |
