I don't think there's a thread for talking about the games themselves as they happen so I might as well start one?

Watching men's soccer, South Korea vs Fiji. The stands are 90% empty. Promising!

When the Korea guy scored the wall he tried to get the ball back. The goal keeper was not a fan of that. The ref didn't even like it. Fun suckers.

Saturday is the start of everything else I think.

Really excited to see this swimmer from the refugee team. Talk about an incredibly inspiring story. Easily one of the most rootable athletes this year, hands down.

Yusra and her sister jumped off a sinking boat full of 20 refugees in the Aegean Sea and swam pushing it for three hours until they got to shore.

I love that you guys had a trampolinist as the flag bearer. So much more interesting than like...Andy Murray or Michael Phelps or Rafa.

I just watched it as well. So amazing!

Here's a little tribute I found from past opening ceremonies:

[flash]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjt-c282q3A']https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjt-c282q3A[/flash]

Best video I have seen in a while.

This opening ceremony, as I already said, was really good. It ofcourse didn't feel as grandiose as Beijing or London, has to do with the budget ofcourse. But altogether really good, the message they tried to bring across was inspiring on it's own- though contradictive coming from the IOC in regards to the lives they've ruined to make this olympics possible <-- not meaning to be a downer ofcourse.

I noticed certain moments of tension, especially when the (president?) was speaking, the boo'ing was harsh, you could totally sense the panic bts to get the attention off of that.

Oh, and after all of that - I have to rush to work now. *sigh*.

But still really good, I liked the London one most though.

And the lighting of the olympic cauldron will never be as cool as the Barcelona OC in 1992, that was amazing.

I'm bummed that Pele couldn't make it to light it, but the substitute was a good one!

I loved the ceremony - less fancy pretentious stuff (bringing it down to the right amount) and more "here, these are some good musicians and other things we've contributed to the world!" I also enjoyed the parade of nations - I nerded out over the Portuguese translations and had fun being an amateur fashion critic. The bastards at NBC still haven't gotten to the torch lighting and I need to go to bed soon but I'll watch that tomorrow!

I also really liked how they basically dedicated the entire ceremony to our planet and the reality of climate change.

But yeah, I totally take back what I said about American broadcasting. All of my friends back in the U.S. were whining about NBC's many commercial breaks. I'll take uninterrupted BBC broadcasting any day.

Does anyone have a livestream? Ive been trying to find it EVERYWHERE, just pure click bait everywhere.

In 2012 I had a perfect live-streaming site that featured all the events for when it wasnt featured on the program on tv, so I'm really hoping you guys may have one.

If I happen to find one, I'll share it on here.
