Survivor: Cook Islands

Survivor: Cook Islands is the thirteenth season of the American CBS competitive reality television series Survivor. The season was filmed from June 26, 2006 through August 3, 2006 and premiered on September 14, 2006.

During this season of Survivor, the contestants were divided into four tribes by ethnicity; African American, Asian American, Hispanic American, and White American, a decision that generated some controversy prior to the premiere. The respective tribes' names were Manihiki ("Hiki"), Puka Puka ("Puka"), Aitutaki ("Aitu"), and Rarotonga ("Raro"). These four tribes were named after islands located in the Cook Islands. The four tribes evenly divided into two new mixed tribes after the second tribal council, taking the Aitutaki and Rarotonga names. A mutiny offer was made to all remaining players during this season before the merge, where two players from the same tribe accepted the mutiny offer. After the nine remaining contestants merged, they decided to name themselves Aitutonga. This season also featured the first time a tribe has voted off two members during a single tribal council. The concept of Exile Island returned, with a hidden immunity idol located somewhere on the island.

Instead of the usual final two players facing a jury of seven, there was a final three facing a jury of nine, which included players that were voted out before the merge. The final jury setup meant that a two or three-way tie to decide the winner of the game was possible, though the method to resolve this tie was unknown at the time. In the end, Yul Kwon defeated Ozzy Lusth and Becky Lee by a jury vote of 5–4–0 and was named the Sole Survivor.

Survivor: Panama

Survivor: Panama — Exile Island, also known as Survivor: Exile Island and Survivor: Panama, is the twelfth season of the American CBS competitive reality television series Survivor. The season was filmed in the Pearl Islands, off the coast of Panama from October 31, 2005 through December 8, 2005 and premiered on February 2, 2006. Hosted by Jeff Probst, it consisted of the usual 39 days of gameplay with 16 competitors, the first season with 16 competitors since Survivor: Pearl Islands five seasons prior.

The 16 players were initially split into four tribes by sex and age: young men (Viveros), older men (La Mina), young women (Bayoneta) and older women (Casaya).[1] These four tribes were named after four islands located in the Pearl Islands. Shortly after the first Tribal Council, the Viveros and Bayoneta tribes were dissolved and a "schoolyard pick" formed two new integrated tribes using the Casaya and La Mina tribe names and camps. When there were ten contestants left, they merged into one tribe named Gitanos, the Spanish word for "gypsy." Coincidentally, a member from each of the original four tribes was represented in the final four. During the season finale on May 14, 2006, it was revealed that Aras Baskauskas was named the Sole Survivor over Danielle DiLorenzo in a 5-2 vote.

The season included a twist that originally came from Survivor: Palau called Exile Island. Each week at least one castaway is banished to an island away from all other contestants for the time period between the reward and immunity challenges. The castaway is given a single machete, a flint, a pot and a bucket of non-sanitized water. The island also contained a hidden immunity idol that could be used at tribal council after the votes have been cast.

Each round I'll be posing a question for all polls. Round one question is a sort of grading rubric for the season:

Rate the season 1-10 on the winner
Rate the season 1-10 on entertainment
Rate the season 1-10 on the cast overall
Rate the season 1-10 on gameplay

Despite Panama edging Cooks out in 3/4 of those, it's so close that I'm giving it to Cooks because of the cast. Cooks brought a lot of future stars. Parv/Jonathan/Candice/Ozzy all return 3 times. Panama had a wacky cast but it was mostly unlikeable to me. It did have better gameplay due to Cooks over powered idol...since Terry never used his overpowered idol as leverage to change the game. Both idols sucked. <3 Cirie tho

I just recently re-watched both of these seasons on CBS All Access as a matter of fact! Who knew I would soon have to choose between them in a poll!!!

I like certain things about each but I would have to go with the drama/characters from Exile Island. I also think Aras was a better winner than Yul. Weird cause the first time I watched Cook Islands I thought Yul was a great winner but, when I re-watched it, he seemed to just benefit from Jonathan's mistakes. Cook Islands does have a better logo, though!

CI
Winner: 7/10 (IMO, Yul is just a liiiitle overrated. Smart guy, good winner, but not a mastermind or anything)
Entertainment: 6/10 (The underdog run of the Aitus was fun to watch, and there's some entertaining players, but this cast is pretty boring)
Cast: 6/10 (Some extremely popular players, but most of the other people I liked are gone early)
Gameplay: 5/10 (The winner had the Tyler Perry idol, the "big move" of the mutiny turned out to be stupid af)

Exile
Winner: 5/10 (One of a pair of seasons Cirie should've won)
Entertainment: 8/10 (One of the funniest seasons)
Cast: 7/10 (The fact that Shane missed SC and Woo got in........)
Gameplay: 5/10 (Outside of Cirie, it's pretty much about whoever wins the challenge)

Exile is a top 10 season for me and it wins where it matters most, the cast is an extremely entertaining one even with some duds (*cough* Sally, Austin, the astronaut guy, Nick *cough*).

Casaya is the greatest tribe in survivor history. Austin and Sally are pretty cool too. Dan Fuego is an effin legend. Cook Islands is p. good but c'mon.
