Survivor: Guatemala
This season also featured the return of Survivor: Palau contestants Stephenie LaGrossa and Bobby Jon Drinkard. Aside from the staple twists such as the double Tribal Council and the tribe switch, a new twist called the hidden immunity idol was introduced. The tribes merged with ten remaining players, naming their tribe Xhakúm. After the merge, they received news that an immunity idol was hidden somewhere at camp. Whoever possessed the idol had to use the idol before the tribe voted. After usage, the idol would be discarded. The idol was only valid until there were four remaining contestants. Danni Boatwright won the title of Sole Survivor by defeating LaGrossa in a 6–1 jury vote.

Survivor: Micronesia
The full cast of 20 contestants was revealed on January 3, 2008 by Entertainment Weekly.[4] For the first time since Survivor: Panama, the final Tribal Council featured a Final Two rather than a Final Three. This was also the first season to have an even numbered jury, with this season having eight jury members, rather than the traditional seven or nine in past seasons, making a tie possible. Host Jeff Probst held a white envelope that he claimed had the tie-breaker, but its contents were not revealed as no tie occurred. In the end, Parvati Shallow defeated Amanda Kimmel by a vote of 5–3 to become the Sole Survivor. On the reunion show, it was revealed that James Clement, for the second consecutive season, was the viewer's choice of favorite contestant, winning US$100,000. Kimmel and Oscar "Ozzy" Lusth received the next highest number of votes.

Micronesia has the better logo and I've heard good things. I've tried to avoid hearing things about Guatemala so I can't judge there. | d ( i n o s r o a ) r

Haven't seen Guatemala in a bit, but don't really need to think about this one. Even with meh editing (that Fans tribe is REALLY forgettable) Micro is one of the best seasons ever IMO. | naonka : saus:: bill:

lol have I actually seen more Survivor seasons than Rose? This is the first poll so far where I've seen both, went with Micronesia. Don't remember too much from either but the TC where Erik gives up immunity is a classic |  |

If this were Micronesia vs. Stephenie's first season where she was on a tribe by herself for awhile, it'd have been a tougher choice. But Micronesia is the easy pick here. | | |

Guatemala
Winner - 4/10, meh not memorable, kind of lucky
Entertainment - 5/10, sry don't like the season
Cast - 3/10, I only really liked the two returnees, hated Lydia
Gameplay 5/10, ehh dont remember much
Micro
Winner - 10/10, one of the best survivor winners ever imo
Entertainment - 9/10, VERY entertaining
Cast - 8/10, some of the early boots like Kathy and Chet were flops, other than that great cast

Probably! I actually have only seen a few full seasons. With the newer seasons I usually only catch half or every other episode. I don't catch up if I miss an episode unless I get the chance before it's spoiled. If I miss too many I skip the rest entirely. Same with if it starts to suck. Hello Caramoan and RI.

They're both on the top of my list to marathon when I have a day to watch it all. The only downside is I'm heavily spoiled on both which makes it a little tougher to start | d ( i n o s r o a ) r

I haven't seen Micronesia's pre-merge (not sure why I started with the merge), but nevertheless I am going to give a devil's advocate case as to why you should all change your minds.
Guatemala:
Rate the season 1-10 on the winner: 6. Danni was low-key on the show so I can't rank her any higher, but she played a strong game by de facto leading her pre-merge tribes and infiltrating the majority at the merge, and since the story of how Danni won the season is really the second-ever example of the edit being about how the runner-up lost (first ever was Boston Rob), may I just say that Stephenie's season-long heel turn was EPIC.
Rate the season 1-10 on entertainment: 8. Jamie vs. Bobby Jon. Stephenie vs. Bobby Jon. Stephenie vs. her alliance. Gary Hogeboom vs. Gary Hawkins. Amy vs. her leg. Cindy vs. other people's cars. Conflict everywhere you turn!
Rate the season 1-10 on the cast overall: 8. Stephenie, Judd, Amy, and Gary are all top-tier, and Lydia, Rafe, Jamie, Brian, and Margaret are all close behind. Almost everyone has a part to play.
Rate the season 1-10 on gameplay: 6. Dictated mostly by the suspiciously-timed swap for most of the game, but there were a lot of interesting little plays being made, even if they didn't really add up to big ones.
BONUS
Rate the season 1-10 on the location: 8. MAJOR points for the Mayan temple, minor deduction for having a big-ass lake they couldn't actually safely swim in. This was corrected for by the ridiculawesome cage/hot tub contraption that was one of the rewards.
Rate the season 1-10 on the challenges: 9. They ran with the Mayan theme in a way that was pretty much perfect.
Micronesia:
Rate the season 1-10 on the winner: 4. CIRIE WAS ROBBED.
Rate the season 1-10 on entertainment: 8. It has a LOT of individual moments that stand out, but I felt like the glue that held them together was lacking. Characters would just sometimes pop up out of nowhere for being threats all of a sudden
Rate the season 1-10 on the cast overall: 7. Good returnees, questionable fans. (Can you imagine if Shirin would have made it into the fans instead of having to wait until Worlds Apart? That would have been incredible.)
Rate the season 1-10 on gameplay: 8. A lot happens per episode, but it's hampered by falling into a pattern (nearly every merge episode, someone is the target, but they stupidly exile them so they can find the idol, and then it comes down to whether or not they play it) and the fact that the various medevacs and quits did more to clear the path for the Black Widows than anything else.
BONUS
Rate the season 1-10 on the location: 10. Palau is beautiful, and the Tribal Council set is one of my all-time favorites.
Rate the season 1-10 on the challenges: 8. A good mix of the creative and new and the iconic and time-tested. |
