The weirdest thing to come out of this is the billionaire’s blink182 loving stepson. Tweeting “I’m single, ladies!” two nights ago while this was going on lol. So wild
I've been following this since Sunday and the entire story is just wild. The more info that comes out, the crazier the entire story is...
It's a relatively safe industry because of all the standards they have in place and this company just decided to ignore them to be "innovative". The new video of the CEO bragging about Carbon Fiber and Titanium...anyone with material science / chemistry background will tell you that this is wrong on a number of levels.
And then to find out that this wasn't their FIRST mission down to the Titanic. I'm amazed the vessel completed a full journey before this with everything I'm reading.
it sounded like they had a multitude of problems with previous expeditions even. Like one of them they installed a thruster the wrong way so he had to hold the game controller (the actual piloting mechanism of the sub) sideways in order to steer the craft properly
and then there's this gem from the captain/CEO for ultimate irony: "You know, at some point, safety just is pure waste. I mean if you just want to be safe, don't get out of bed, don't get in your car, don't do anything. At some point, you're going to take some risk, and it really is a risk/reward question. I think I can do this just as safely by breaking the rules."
