The mystery has me hooked, that's for sure. The dialogue leaves a lot to be desired. The scene with Jodie Foster and the younger cop going over the evidence where she kept saying "wrong question" and he would say "okay" and try again felt particularly rough to me. They can also pump the brakes on the sex scenes, they're not going to get another viral Daddario style clip out of this cast. Though I do support Jodie Foster getting it from everyone in Ennis that she wants it from.

The giant frozen ball of corpses is a pretty cool, fucked up set piece. And I love how they just park it in the ice rink with the entire fuckin' town stopping by to peep at it at different times.
yeah the dialogue definitely hasn't been the best. I couldn't believe they ACTUALLY dropped a "in English, please!"

I actually didn't mind the dialogue in that scene you referenced tho, what bothered me more is that Foster's character's signature line is apparently just a callback to Cohle's "start asking the right fucking questions" line. I'm not too keen on ANY of the connections to S1 (which there are quite a few already), even though I don't mind it when other anthologies like Fargo do it. I guess it's because of this season's shift in tone? Like there was nothing ACTUALLY supernatural about the Tuttle mystery in S1, but in this season you've got actual ghosts and shit like it's nbd. Hard to buy that these two seasons exist in the same universe. I'm gonna choose to believe they don't!
I do like the new stuff on its own tho. Still a cool setting and interesting mystery, even if the characters/dialogue leave something to be desired
Oh that Billie song in the intro was a garbage choice tho. How uninspired. I was just making fun of the Madame Web and Night Swim trailers for both featuring that song at the same time which they must’ve been mad about. And now TD comes in a month later using it (:
The visuals were bad too, idk why they’d change it up from 1-3 which feel like a staple. They tried to do the ~glitchy kinda thing like American Horror Story, I didn’t like it at all
I liked episode 1, loved episode 2, was okay with episode 3. I haven't looked at the number of episodes but did hear it's shortened this season. I'm not that into the supernatural aspect but apparently that's happening so...
I did really like the scene at the end of episode 1 where the person's (idr her name) ex (?) shows her where the bodies are. A lot of it was kind of icky to me.. just the town living conditions etc. Don't judge me.
The scene in episode 3 where the amputated survivor scientist sat up in the hospital bed and creepily spoke to Trooper Navarro was kind of chilling.
I echo the sentiments of how great it is that they dropped a frozen block of dead people into the ice-skating rink.
I will add that I do like the relationship with Jodie Foster's character and the younger detective. I like that she tells him to "ask the question." If that was stolen from another season, I didn't catch it so I'm good. (:
Granted I was v tired when I started it, but I dozed off a loooot during this ep. I saw the few horror bits and thought they were fine. I wish a snowy mystery/horror was intriguing me more though. I guess I also don't really like any single character? Acting is fine though
Im also glad Navarro’s sister died. She was annoying.
I watched the end. I’m glad it was a human result. Kinda makes all the supernatural whispering kinda lame. Finding the three fingered girl’s print and solving after all that was lol.
I still love Jodie Foster.
It doesn’t explain the fact that if you freeze to death you would basically fall asleep so I was expecting more.
Now, all you film experts plz feel free to override everything I said.
I don't know. Maybe I'm being extra harsh on it in my head for cosplaying as True Detective. If this had been truncated, called Cold Town Murder and aired on Lifetime as a movie I'd probably think it was fine, even leaning towards surprising me. But it wasn't, it flew a banner that still kinda meant something.
A few things really made me laugh.

That damn slowed down, dramatic version of Twist and Shout literally made me lol. The reveal that the scientists basically said "hello yes is this the mine? we are requiring more pollution, faster." And then of course the whole scene with the cleaning ladies sweeping Tsalal like a fucking strike team.
I really liked the Rose character, maybe only because she was used so sparingly.
From the jump I was just hoping for something other than Wind River wearing a spooky hat, but that's basically what I got.
